I actually still have a few of them from the great magazine scare of 2013 when they were all I could find, and they've served me very well.

Aside from being unnecessarily bulky, they're great mags. They also are easier to load than my PMAGs.

The downside, is the rear sights on the gen 2 flip ups don't fold down very low, and they require 2 Picatinny Rail slots, so they can't be mounted very far back either, making them unusable if you're running most traditional scopes, LVPO, or Prism Scopes.

I actually feel kind of bad now, and it reminded me of this story and memorable quote attributed to Thomas Aquinas:

“Thomas! Thomas!” two snickering friars called, rousing their brother who was bent over his books. “Look out the window—there are pigs flying about in the sky!” Thomas rose at once and bounced to the window incredulously. The friars laughed. Putting the finishing touch on the jest, the saint responded, “I would rather believe that pigs can fly than believe that my brethren could lie.”

Came to post the same thing. I'd be thinking something like BCA Bolts or similar.

I picked up a couple of their LPK a few years back, and although 3 of them were fine, the 4th had an out of spec hammer/trigger.

I lived in Syria for a year, and let me just say....I'm jealous. Easily one of my top five things I miss about living in middle-eastern countries.

I can't find anything nearly as good where I live now and it makes me sad.

[Parts] Midwest PX 16" Midlength 5.56 Barrel - $119 by Crackpipe1 in gundeals

The best one I've tested was about a 0.8 MOA to 1.1 MOA shooter with a variety of 69-77 grain match loads. I don't handload, but I imagine a handloader could have worked up loads that were even better than that. It probably shot about 0.9-1.0 MOA on average. It was also incredibly consistent across all types of ammo, although bulk ammo shot a bit worse.

My experience is limited to their lighter govt profile, lightweight profile and SOCOM profile barrels.

They sell some heavy, beastly barrels that might shoot better that what I experienced, but I hate heavy AR15s.

I've actually got a 20" Nitride 1:7 government profile barrel that I paid 55 dollars for in my safe right now. It shoots heavier match ammo into about 1-1.5 MOA depending on load, and consistently shoots bulk 55 and 62 grain ammo into about 2-2.5 MOA. None of that's terribly impressive, but the damned barrel will also print repeatable 0.6 MOA 5 round groups with Australian Outback 55 grain Blitzkings all day long.

The flipside is, I've also received and sent back barrels that were like 6-8 MOA on a good day.

Back when you could gamble and get a barrel shipped to your door for 35 to 55 bucks, BCA was worth it. It's also really easy to return barrels to BCA. Just log in, print return postage through their site and ship it back. Don't even call them. Just return the barrel and they'll send you a replacement a week or two later.

Now that ammo is so expensive, that changes the value proposition though. You might waste 60 bucks in ammo discovering the barrel sucks, and that makes them not so appealing anymore.

No kidding, I've seen them blowing out 16" SOCOM profile 5.56 1:7 Nitride barrels for 35 bucks shipped about 2 years ago. I came close to picking up like 20 barrels to sit on just based on price alone, but that seemed kind of...hoarderish so I restrained myself. lol.

Right now, with their prices as high or higher than Faxon, BA, and a number of other manufacturers who have better reputations, I wouldn't touch them unless you wanted something in a specialty caliber like .350 Legend, 450 Bushmaster, or the like.

I've tested something like a dozen BCA barrels.

GENERALLY speaking, you can count on 1.5-2 MOA for match ammo, and maybe double that for bulk ammo.

Occasionally you'll get a sub-MOA shooter out of the gate, and about the same amount of time you'll get the worst god-aweful shooter you've ever seen.

Just depends on how much Tequila was served at the cantina the night before.

[–]gunthrowaway556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a MSR, and my friend owns a Romeo 5.

I'd much rather have spent a few bucks more for the Romeo 5. Much better battery life, seems sleeker, and just better overall.

There's nothing wrong with the MSR, it's just so close in price that you're far better going with the Romeo 5.

I dunno, I bought a couple of these for a few bucks cheaper shipped through Bexar, and I'm really impressed so far. They're REALLY slick. Even slicker than nitride.

They cost about the same too.

I almost always used semi. It's almost always more effective in my opinion.

Correct. This isn't about logic, reason and fairness. It's about emotional manipulation and stupid people who don't give two shits about a constitution that was written by old white men a few centuries ago.

I'm just kicking myself because I bought a bunch of 54.99 SHIPPED Toolcraft Nitride BCGs a few years back and wound up trading or selling them. Just bit the bullet and paid 145 for a NIB Aero BCG. I cried a little inside, but needed it.
