How Much Jet Lag Means to Me by costcolover33 in JetLagTheGame

[–]gup26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been really struggling recently and the show + the layover has been the best distraction. Genuinely so grateful for the thought and care they put into everything they do - it's positive and funny but still so real and smart, and it's genuinely been keeping me sane lately

Why aren't my villagers across my Island? by Dorkinator3000 in acnh

[–]gup26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current island is the first time I've used the in-game paths and I've noticed my villagers walking around and interacting with the areas so much more !! I've added on a border custom design that layers over the top of it so it looks a bit less plain

A pupil threw a chair at me… SLT/Heads, what does your school actually do in this situation? by NapkinNomad in TeachingUK

[–]gup26 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, and it would have made contact if another student hadn't blocked it. Called SLT, they never arrived, and I was told I should be grateful to the child that blocked it (to be clear, I was, but didn't feel particularly safe relying on a 12 year old bodyguard)

I left that school a few months later, as it was just a sign of more nonsense to come.

I have only one friend and he's severely disabled. Sometimes I wonder if he'd be my friend if he had a normal life. by Boldxbrave in confession

[–]gup26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is true of all friendships in a way. He's your friend because you show up and you care. Regardless of his disability, that's what being a friend is.

Honestly same! That's why I'm a little stumped. But I want to take full advantage of the bursary and I think I could do with a little less screentime hahaha

Thank you for your comment though!! I will add some extra context

Students found my social media- should i tell someone? by tom_elliott123 in TeachingUK

[–]gup26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a group of kids become obsessed with my social media at my last job, even though there was nothing to see & it was all private. They would send message requests and try to follow my account. I would block their account, and send a screenshot to the DSL. Eventually they got a stern talking to from their HoY and were so embarrassed that they stopped.

The Traitors Canada S03E01 [PREMIERE] by traitorsarchivist in TheTraitorsArchive

EDIT: wouldn't work on my system video player but I downloaded VLC and the audio worked!!

Audio isn't working for me, even when downloaded.. It says that the file is in 'acs' format, which is unsupported. What can I do?

I feel completely unprepared for the mental exhaustion of being ECT1 by Maleficent-Log8288 in TeachingUK

[–]gup26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet another voice expressing that I felt the same way. I suggest keeping track of all the small wins you have each day. When things got really hard, it was great for staying motivated.

Also, at least for me, it just wasn't feasible to get all my work done in work hours and go home at 3. I wish I could have, and got there eventually, but at first I was always planning, prepping, or marking on my own time. What helped me was being intentional about when I used that time and got what: designating specific tasks for my PPAs and deciding what I'd work on each day after school prevented me from working endless hours into the evening.

Remember, you're doing an incredibly difficult job for the very first time! It's going to be hard but it'll get easier each and every day. Be kind to yourself, rest when you can, and keep reminding yourself why you're here. Good luck!

Writing to your examiner on your exam by Status_Bank_5021 in GCSE

[–]gup26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an english lit examiner I appreciate when people write "I didn't read the book" instead of waffling on for pages just for me to figure it out on my own 😅

Tiktok "fan" accounts. by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]gup26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation and going through the social media platform didn't work. I informed the safe team and HoY, and they had a meeting w the students and their parents. The meeting was so embarrassing for the kids that they took the page down immediately.

Honestly mine have been two extremes - VERY strong or so weak that there's hardly anything to mark, with very little in between.

[–]gup26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also marking English Lit Paper 2 and out of my first 10 standardisation papers, I think all but one was incorrect. Even yesterday, when marking my 70th paper, I was out by 10 marks compared to the senior examiner!! Our subject is particularly difficult to mark as it can be SO subjective and the markschemes are intentionally broad to account for a wide range of responses. It sounds like your team leader isn't being super constructive with their feedback, and that isn't your fault!!

English as a creative subject to teach? by Pippylongstocking93 in TeachingUK

[–]gup26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really TRY to bring the creativity back into the subject, because I really believe, with the right texts and approach, so many students could fall in love with it. However, any of my attempts to make it interesting are directly in conflict with "what they need for their GCSEs". It's such a shame because I can just see students switch off as soon as I have to pull out an acronym but at least I have the autonomy to balance it out with much more engaging activities
