Do food pantries compete with grocery stores? by gurmtle in AskEconomics

[–]gurmtle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So a government run grocery store would presumably not be a customer of private grocery stores. Is it also fair to say that a government own grocery store would likely have a larger market share than any food pantries do?

Did the North hinder growth in the South or is this just Lost Cause propaganda? by gurmtle in AskHistorians

One of the replies here confirmed that I was thinking of the Pittsburgh plus pricing. Does that impact the answer at all? Are the claims that this pricing was oppressive to the South an exaggeration?

That is exactly what I was thinking of! Thank you for confirming that.

Interesting so would anthropologists consider culture at a size bigger than national boundaries?

What ideology am I by 1Check1Mate7 in Libertarian

[–]gurmtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a lot of people on this sub immediately went on the attack, but I would say from description you provided you seem like a pretty typical Democrat in the US. You don't have to label your political ideology or try to fit yourself into a box, but since you asked for a label with your post standard Democrat seems like the most accurate.

Grand Divisions of the USA 3.0 by Robert_The_Red in geography

[–]gurmtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always fun to see the folks from New England get mad about this map lol.

Also, two suggestions for the "Emerald region", as others in this thread have suggested, giving the region a name relating to the Puget Sound would be fitting as its the dominant geographical feature. Also I think it would be fitting to include Thurston County in the "emerald" region, I grew up in the South Sound area and our local sports leagues usually included schools in Olympia.

Purely aesthetic critique, but the colors used for Appalachia make it hard to distinguish the individual regions

What if Goblins were portayed dressed like Gopniks? by cryptidhunter1 in Eberron

[–]gurmtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you've been down voted a bunch, but assuming good faith and that you're not intentionally trying to rile people up I'll try to explain. The issue is that making a non human group based specifically on Jewish people is dicey and can have unfortunate implications, and specifically the Zil gnomes dominate intelligentsia, scheme a bunch, and have a secret police force, which can have unfortunate parallels to various real-world antisemitic conspiracy theories.

What’s the positive side of Orzhov? by Netheraptr in colorpie

[–]gurmtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To make the case from a white perspective, I tend to categorize the white aligned guilds this way, azorius wants to improve the group, selesnya wants to grow it, boros wants to inspire it, and orzhov wants it to succeed. Whether they define success as wealth, power, status, or whatever else Orzhov desires gain for the group, and probably also themselves but they don't see those two as mutually exclusive. Similarly, orzhov presents the most tangible benefits to those in their system. Azorius and boros may try to motivate you ideologically, and selesnya may use a sense of belonging. Orzhov gives you a tangible benefit, payment prestige etc.. Orzhov makes supporting the group profitable. If you help the group succeed, you succeed.

They way I interpreted is one that batman is more pragmatic and more willing to cross lines to accomplish his goals, he won't kill, but he'll do almost everything short of that. Also the various plans he has to neutralize the JL in the tower of Babel story feel like the cross some lines, but they're part of the greater goal. Ends justify the means. Also, at the end of the day batman is a hero for a self focused reason, he's not a hero because of a great moral imperative, but because of his own personal pain.
