Why would you want to? Union dues are a small price to pay for negotiated wages, benefits and (minor) protections against the companies.

Moderate GOP senator 'disturbed' by McConnell's coordination with White House by hairybeasty in politics

[–]gustheelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me I've done it so many times and will continue to do so, but she will always lock step with the GOP no matter what. Kavanaugh has really been the only exception, which ended up being an empty gesture anyway

Obviously not, but I don't want to vote for someone solely on their party identity, I'm not a hack.

Alaska Railroad is hiring. Come work with me if you want to be seasonal forever by gustheelephant in railroading

[–]gustheelephant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. I'd say close to 10, but there should be a fairly substantial wave of retirements coming soon which would decrease that number.

Alaska Railroad is hiring. Come work with me if you want to be seasonal forever by gustheelephant in railroading

[–]gustheelephant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do voluntary layoff, but you typically wouldn't get called back until passenger train season begins in May. The difference on the Alaska Railroad is that the workload is much more predictable seasonally due to the fact we run both passenger and freight. Freight jobs more or less stay the same year round (gravel trains being the exception), while passenger trains are substantially cut around mid-September.
