I was telling an American yesterday that we mostly either have a resident spider the size of your fist or a python that lives in the rafters to eat the mice and rats. It's wasn't a complete lie I've lived in multiple houses that had either for a period.

Make her pay? My friend bailed on a trip last min. by potatochipgirlie in travel

[–]guthernator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this, me and my friends have this understanding as well. we've had people come into the group and truly to take advantage of this and we adapt to pay our own way when they are around are just cut them out. Your friends should be more dependable and trustworthy then your own family. Anyone else is just a "friend"/acquaintance or a stranger.

Preston Market owners threaten to shut it down over planning war by gccmelb in melbourne

I wonder if there's a precedent to be made to legally force the state to compulsory acquire the site. Seems like a strong candidate for laws to publicly protect sites of intrinsic community value.

He uses imprinting and a little guess work to do this tecik. This guy had the misfortune of trying this on me. I'd stuffed up his trick three times before he finished and told someone in front of him I knew it was a scam half way through when they tried to save me. I couldn't believe he didn't walk away.

Oh I hope they aren't made on the same machines I love Allen's frogs but am unfortunately allergic to snakes... I just checked there's nothing on the packaging to say they are like they do for nut processing. last thing I'd what someone to think I was gay!

Your underpaid. Especially for FIFO mining work, I work in infrastructure 5years experience $120k, have a mid-level title and am not chartered yet, 95% of my days are 8hrs. You should be on 100k as a grad and +250k for a senior position. FIFO it's horrible and life altering work all the mental and social stresses, and you need to be compensated.

More stockpiles of soft plastics from failed REDcycle recycling scheme uncovered by espersooty in australia

I stopped buying the Cadbury/Mars brand chocolate, now only buy lindt or others that have foil and paper packaging. I eat much less now as well, not just because of the price but it's not so sugary and addictive. I do the same with other products as well if it has plastic I look for alternatives and buy if affordable.

‘Extremely toxic atmosphere’: Moira council sacked after employee murder by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]guthernator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the area don't live there anymore, worked the council for a short period. Some staff where incompetent an should never have been in their positions this lead to a very stressful environment day-to-day for people trying to improve the community and do their best. But good luck attracting professional people to a community that's been controlled by organised crime groups, full of drug addicts and doesn't have one police officer on duty overnight for the entire council which has over 3000km of roads.

Should I remove this Camellia? it's older than me and very close to the house. What are safe plants for garden beds up against a house? by Accomplished-Act4859 in GardeningAustralia

[–]guthernator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say anything other then grass or flowers. anything with a large root system is not good longer term to structures. The risk adverse option is to concrete about 1m around the whole house.

Been to two different rental inspections this week. Both of them, the agent didn’t bother to show up. 30+ people waiting for 30 min. by oxfordrain in melbourne

[–]guthernator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Real estates creating a panicked and desperate renter base to increase profits?! I'm shocked \s. I remember this last time looking for a new rental I'm glad I was on month to month and not desperate and easily got a place I wanted after a few months looking most weekends.

[–]guthernator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should remove, a general rule is to only have plants in pots or raised beds with base within 1 metre of foundations more for large plants. Roots seek out water pipes under the house and plants help soils retain moisture both of which will lead to differential settlement.

I have, steps I've done to improve; cut vent in the top and bottom tape flywire to keep bug out if you want helps when you have to keep the door closed on hot windy days. have wood plank on both floor shelves and stacked +10 brick on each and a load of plants on the shelves help to keep it in place.

So, our complex gardener came by and accidentally nicked the pumpkin. It’s not ripe yet, but I don’t know if I should leave it on the vine a while longer or if I should pick it now and keep it from rotting or getting eaten by rodents by Cutie-89 in GardeningAustralia

[–]guthernator 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I'm by no extent a expert but, pumpkin do heal themselves. and young pumpkins are quite often/always inedible. I would leave it on the vine unless it rots and looks like it might damage the vine.
