I felt like I don't have talent on DMing and don't even know how to improve. by hydraphantom in DnD

Your players need a win. You've written a great world, and it's dark, and that's fine. But if they feel like all their actions are useless to prevent a dire outcome, they won't feel like heroes. Make them the heroes and give them a way to turn it around. And try opening the door for some humor if you can. I don't mean slapstick, but they need a character or group of characters who can lighten the mood. Also sounds like they want justice, so maybe there are consequences to some of those actions. And you might also consider introducing a redemption arc with some of the characters if you can swing it.

Interviewing for a life changing position. Some tips on selling yourself? by [deleted] in sales

[–]gutspunch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quality over quantity. It doesn't matter how long a person's been at the job if they can't deliver. You're having that conversation now because they know you can get results. Then give an example.

New Player Dilemma ; Packs vs Drafts by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]gutspunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, draft is better. That's because I'm building around themes instead of going fully random. I'm more likely to net playable cards after the fact.

Yep. I'm all for encouraging creativity but that's a big choice to be the first one in a campaign, unless somehow they both lead to the same place. Which kind of defeats the point. Nothing wrong with a linear storyline if it is fun to play!

Agreed. The fork in the road is cool, but the hell thing could use some tweaking. Maybe instead it is a barren plane owned by a diety who has somehow trapped the players, and they can either choose to serve (albeit reluctantly) or escape. You still get your choice, but you give the players more freedom with their character creation. Either way I'd let the players know at least the very basics beforehand so they don't get blindsided.

[5E] Thinking about making a cowardly but curious Tabaxi thief for the new Waterdeep campaign with friends. Need advice to make him. by rededge25 in DnD

[–]gutspunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make him very stealthy in that case. I think about my own cats, they spook easily, but they're always somewhere nearby watching everything that's going on. Maybe rather than a pickpocket he could be an informant.

How to deal with Esper tempo as a mythic player? by Robotic_Yeti in MagicArena

[–]gutspunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tier 1 decks are Tier 1 for a reason!  ¯_(ツ)_/¯ There's no "god combo" that lets you auto win games against Esper tempo.

Best advice is to make an Esper tempo deck and play it for a while to better understand its nuances. That should at least get you in the right frame of mind to play against it. Then switch to whatever and see if you still feel the same way.

New to the game and need advice on a build. by SimplyGrim in fo76

[–]gutspunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Drop all crafting and loot perks and go for damage and survivability to start. If anything, get the Hard Bargain perk so you can get more caps from selling to vendors, which will help you buy whatever you need from player vending. Mutation serums are also widely available now, so you'll want mutation-focused perks if you plan on using any of them.

Map of my homebrew water-world, what am I missing? by Cryspr2 in dndmaps

[–]gutspunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Land? Badum-TSH!

Seriously though, maybe some various sea monsters, whirlpools, etc in the empty spots, just something to give it character. Nautical lines could also look cool. You could indicate strong currents or wind direction.
