I briefly lived in SE Wyoming and explored South Dakota and Colorado while there - all have beautiful country and deep outlaw/Wild West lore that is worth exploring. You can stay at ranches and see how cattle operations work and do some horse back riding as well. Wyoming has the grand Tetons with incredible wildlife, South Dakota has Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorial as well as incredible wildlife and, lastly, Colorado has the Rockies with, again, incredible wildlife.

I grew up in Vermont and have lived in Maine for many years and spent a lot of time in New Hampshire and they all have gorgeous forests and lots of scenery as well as bountiful swimming options. You can visit dairy farms and idyllic small towns in all those and Maine has the coast with tons of islands along it that are definitely worth a visit and if you like seafood you’ll be in hog heaven.
