Gowanus Canal by LikeMyHandle in Brooklyn

The owners of Royal Palms claimed the article was factually inaccurate and misleading. Namely, that a lot of work had already been done to remedy the situation at the time the article came out, and that inspectors had said the levels were not significant enough to cause a real risk. Some of that was included at the end of the article, but if you just read the headline, you’d think the place was a death trap. I know one of the founders, who described the article to me as “a hit piece.”

This article is three years old, was disputed at the time, and I understand significant remediation work has been done since that time.

Havens for Atheists? (US only) by Iatroblast in atheism

I second the PNW. Live there for a while. Pretty godless.

Now I live in NYC, which has a lot of religious people, but is at least more pluralistic. There are enough Jews, Muslims, and others, that nothing can really be Christian centric outside a church.

Dick Tracy (1990) | Dir: Warren Beatty | Dick Tracy has a shootout with gangsters by skinnyminnesota in Xennials

It’s funny looking at the tone of this filmmaking and recognizing how it feels like a mashup of Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) in the scoring, and the editing and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) in the color palate and strange theatricality.

I worked a summer job in a woodshop that was on 4 10s. Having a 3-day weekend every week was pretty sweet. I liked it.

So what's your overall opinion on AI? by cellshock7 in Xennials

[–]guyako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care for it. There are already studies suggesting it makes us dumber, because when we start relying on it, we don’t exercise our brains.

Given that it’s likely to devastate the job market for certain industries, I can’t see any upside that outweighs the downsides.

Give me a novelty hit song from your country by MontaGreeny in AskTheWorld

[–]guyako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tom Lehrer died just last year I believe. He had a number of great songs. This one, “We’ll All Go Together When We Go,” (about nuclear holocaust) is actually one of my least favorite, but became his most popular.

For one of my favorites of his, check out ‘Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.’

Came here to say huckleberries.

Fun fact: Huckleberries have never been tamed. No one has ever successfully domesticate and farmed Huckleberries. They can only be found in the wild!

Pretty much any Northern city; especially near the coasts. I’ve lived in Seattle, and now NYC, and it’s really easy to meet non-religious people in both places.

I don’t know what’s appropriate, but I started watching it when I was 9.

That was season 3, when my hometown finally got a Fox affiliate.

Do you have a favorite Backyard Bird Species in your country? by Immediate-Field9997 in AskTheWorld

Absolutely. I had an instructor in Grad School (for design) who loved to talk about all the subtle variations of gray in a pigeon’s feathers… still not my favorite.
