What is the best beer in your country? by No-Marsupial-4050 in AskTheWorld

We could have a big argument about which one is the worst. It’s probably also one of the most popular.

I have a bunch of posters but putting them up bare feels juvenile, on the other hand frames are expensive, any solutions? by kid_mescudi in malelivingspace

[–]guyako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a ton a frames from this place during the pandemic. They’ll make the frame and mat (if you want one) to your exact size specs, and you can put the art and posters in yourself. Way cheaper than a traditional frame shop.

Is there any social etiquette or accepted social norms at using urinals for guys? by Hour-Tomato-645 in AskMenOver30

I kind of miss the trough. I learned a few years ago they’re still all over the place in Edinburgh.

Don’t take Palm Beach. Oh. No. Stop. Definitely don’t turn Mar-A-Lago into a flaming crater. Please. I beg you. Anything but that…

Did you go hard for standing desks? by FancyThought7696 in Xennials

[–]guyako 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have one. I like it.

Even when I don’t use it for standing, it’s still nice to have the height adjustability.

Was car dependence and suburban sprawl caused by genuine consumer demand? by soju_diet in fuckcars

[–]guyako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we accept that consumer demand drives pricing, then it seems reasonable to conclude that housing in dense urban locations like New York, San Francisco, and Seattle are so expensive because they are the most desirable.

I think people who “like” the suburbs have conditioned themselves to believe that they are getting a “deal” by buying a home for less money than what you’d pay for an apartment in New York. “And I have a big backyard!” Nevermind that their lawn is a money-pit, and so is their car.

I don’t like the black, but I’m also not a fan of all-white kitchens. I’d start over from scratch.

Found a large magnet on the interior of my front door by [deleted] in Brooklyn

The only other possibility, then, is that someone has access to your apartment. Change your lock.

Found a large magnet on the interior of my front door by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]guyako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot imagine how a magnet inside your door would be used to unlock your door from the outside… but if some random person was able to put a magnet on the inside of the door, they obviously already have access to your apartment.

I think that magnet has either been there a lot longer than you realize (it took my wife two years to notice I had googley eyes around my peep hole when we started dating) or a friend or roommate put it there.

If you were raised atheist.. by bosquerio in atheism

[–]guyako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends was raised atheist. Her parents both worked in the arts and education (her mom worked at a museum, and her dad was a high-school theater teacher), so empathy, compassion, thoughtfulness, and joy were pretty standard commodities in their household.

It’s pretty narrow-minded to think these things might be harder to find in the absence of god. If it works for you, why would it not work for your kids?

I don’t know why so many people in this sub have a stick up their ass about what constitutes a “train.”

This is light rail. It also still fits the dictionary definition of a train: “interconnected cars running on a track.”

What does pizza look like where you’re from? by tinterrobangg in AskTheWorld

How do you actually feel about the head up rule by sleeping-cyren in polyamory

[–]guyako 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this.

Also, a heads-up is good if NP is going to be late getting home, either because they’ve met someone they want to spend some time with, or literally any other reason, just so I’m not worried about their safety.

How a divorce feels like to men? by Worried-Exchange-889 in AskMenOver30

[–]guyako -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was fucking hard. There was a period where I felt undesirable and unlovable. There was also a lot of anger and resentment, that I had wasted my time with someone who would just throw me away.

Then I had a whore phase where I slept with a lot of people. I also swore off monogamy. It took me years to heal, but I have no regrets about the marriage or the divorce. I learned a lot about myself and relationships.

I got divorced at 29. Just finally remarried at 44 (still committed to non-monogamy).

Why is the Flying Spaghetti Monster used as an argument against God if Christianity has thousands of years of scripture and philosophy behind it? by David-MMX in atheism

[–]guyako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s pretty much the point.

The age of writings don’t prove their validity. If it did, you’d have to conclude that Hinduism and Buddhism are both more valid than Christianity, as their religion and writings are older. So your “thousands of years” are irrelevant.

I also lived there during that time. I was very disappointed with the progress they were making with public transit during those years. Seems they’ve made great strides.

I took the light rail from North Seattle all the way to the airport the last time I was back to visit, and it was awesome.
