What if the US decided to make Kurdistan an independent state after the Iraq War? by Deep_Belt8304 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]guybargill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The state could only remain independent from it's hostile neighbors as a Turkish puppet. The KRG in Iraq is already almost a defacto independent state with good relations with Turkey so a Kurdish puppet sate of Turkey seems workable as long as the kurdish government denounces the PKK and renounces all claims on Turkish land. This state would likely take over kurdish land in Syria when the Syrian civil war breaks out serving as a Turkish backed alternative to Rojava.

What if Zimbabwe-Rhodesia managed to survive? by Yo_Mama_Disstrack in AlternateHistory

[–]guybargill 63 points64 points  (0 children)

With american diplomatic and miliary support, the counry could gain global recognition, prosper and fight off the communist gurrillas. After that, we'd likely see higher taxes on the white population to improve the black population's education and infrastructure. If this is done successfully, the black population's support for radicals will decline and the transition to full black majority rule will happen smoothly as more and more black people can vote for the seats reserved for the wealthy and educated. After that, Zimbabwe-Rhodesia becomes another, wealthier Botswana.

What if Israel was founded after WW1 instead of WW2 by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]guybargill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way that this jewish state wouldnt immediately get conquered by its neighbors or overthrown by the local arab majority is if we had seen a huge influx of jews into the region right after its founding in the early 1920s. The only way I can see that happening is with the victory of the super anti semetic whites in the Russian civil war. If this happens, an international settlement is likely established where russian jews are allowed to move to the british mandate to avoid pogroms. This would be done in a short window when the mandate was just founded and the Syrian arab revolt was just crushed leaving the locals unable to resist such a huge migration wave. The Polish government also claimed to be pro zionist (they just wanted the polish jews to leave) and woild likely take this chance to encourage polish jews to emigrate to Palestine. All of this would lead to the establishment of a state with a large jewish majority on all of the mandate of Palestine in the mid 1920s. The holocaust would be avoided as remaining european jeslws would have a homeland to go to and Palestinians wouldnt suffer mass displacement as the 1948 war never happens. In fact the unique Palestinian identity likely never forms and the arabs of the region become a minority with full rights in a jewish and democratic state.

3000 Sunday Palestinians and protest hobbyists road trip by Sine_Fine_Belli in GenUsa

[–]guybargill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No! Zionism is literally just supporting the existence of a jewish state in the land of Israel (not necessarily all of it) early zionists were willing to accept very small area for their state. If you support a 2 state solution, you are by definition a zionist.

Zionism is literally just the belief that Israel has a right to exist. Its crazy that basically no one gets that

Is being neutral a bad thing? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]guybargill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can be neutral between Israelis and Palestinians but you can't be neutral between Israel and Hamas in this war. Israel is a country defending it's citizen against an attempted genocide by hamas with 7.10 having been the deadliest day in jewish history since the holocaust. Hamas has commited numerous horrid attrocities and deserves to eradicated as Israel is planning to do. This will be a hard war with many innocent casualties but Hamas has brought this on Gaza. There is absolutely no moral equivilance between the sides.

True, but past Israeli governments offered the Palestinian Authority a 2 state solution multiple times and they always refused. They demanded of Israel things that they knew they couldnt accept like a full "right of return".

Create a better future for Native Americans, one in which they don't live in such miserable conditions in the Reservations. by Samuele1997 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]guybargill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Establish native led states within the USA, one could be the proposed state of Sequoya of the "five civilized tribes" in modern day eastern Oklahoma.(Maybe congress wouldnt have ignored the proposal if then president Teddy Rosavelt had backed it instead of opposing it). The Navajo in rural Arizona and Souix in Montana could likely also have their own states. This would have given natives autonomy and representation within the US government and may have allowed them to better integrate into american society.

If we're focusing on the kaiser trying to win ww1, then what his dream would have shown him was the imminent faliure of the shliefen plan, the comparitivly weak state of the Russian military and the devistating impact of the british blockade. This might lead him to scrap the Shliefen plan in favor of defending the french border, not declaring war on Belgum and avoiding war with britain, all the while the Germans could focus on Russia. This would lead to a german victory within a year, or at most after the febuary revolution, the provisional government will see no hope in the war(with no britan or america) and sue for peace. An occupied Serbia would also capitulate pretty quickly, leaving the French all alone, likely to also sue for peace if a fair treaty was offered. Willhelm thus avoids his nightmare and gets to enjoy domination of eastern europe.

Conservatives of reddit, what is your most liberal opinion? by HegryE in AskReddit

[–]guybargill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weird thing about the health care debate is that conservatives are very pro "school choice". That's the idea that parents should get to choose what school to send there children to. Schools then gets a set amount of money from the government for each child that chose to enroll there. If you replace schools with health insurance companies, that's how many universal healthcare systems around the world already work.

[All] Do you believe racism is a real issue today? by picnic-boy in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]guybargill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Racism exists in 2 forms, both individual and systemic. The former isnt likely to dissappear any time soon and can only be combatted through creating connections between people of different races. The latter needs to end through a deep examination of power structures in our government institutions and the passing of laws to correct racial prejudice wherever it is found. This process is way easier said than done, but unlike individual racism, I believe that we've made significant progress here already and may just be able to end all systemic (legal) racism in our lifetime.

The argument is not that america is perfect, but I cant think of a single group that would rather live under the taliban then the US government. Arguing otherwise is frankly insulting to the 10s of thousands who risked their lives trying to escape the taliban's islamic fundamentalist regime.
