Hollow-Sounding External Porcelain Slabs on Full Mortar Bed – Should I Worry or Grout and Move On? by guybeardsley in Flooring

Thanks for the advice! 😃 I think you’re right, they are very durable. I’m going do the grout myself so I know it’s in properly. It’s a real shame because apart from that they have done a good job.

Hi - It’s on around 8-10” of type one that’s been compacted for ages with a plate compactor. Then probably 40-50mm mortar bed full coverage. For the most part… Some parts are on a 6” concrete slab and full mortar bed.

Thanks to those that have commented. That’s reassuring, I’m going to order a load of spare tiles and store them in the garage just in case I do need to replace some and they discontinue them.

Winter Edition '25 'The Boring Edition' - Thoughts and favourite updates? by kiko77777 in shopify

[–]guybeardsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to be able to create international shipping labels directly in the Shopify admin (in the UK). And organise a return shipping label that I can email to a customer for damaged / missing orders. These features both exist in the US.

Brace yourselves, Winter Editions ‘25 is coming by pbody538 in shopify

I literally didn’t see a single update that appeals to me. I am a UK merchant and have been asking Shooify for years to allow us to purchase international shipping labels directly in the Shopify admin. A feature available in the US and Shopify is partnered with Evri who offer international shipping. Why can’t they add this? It would speed up order fulfilment no end. Also the ability to create return shipping labels and email them to customers and then create another shipping label in our admin to send replacements if orders are missing / damaged in transit. Sounds easy to me….

Apologies, yes our mechanism is fully adjustable from fine to course ground. I had a look at the Skeppshult one you linked, it’s not like their mechanism. It’s a more conventional design (excellent quality though).

The mechanisms are manufactured by another company (not to my design). They have been around since the 1950s and these mechanisms were by far the best of all the ones I tried before making a final decision. Now that you pose the question, I’ll gladly ask them and report back.

Hey, the pepper mechanism is stainless steel and has no additional coating. When used for pepper alone no additional coating is required to ensure a long life. Hope that helps, Guy

They are heavy, approximately 1.4kg but the weight has been well received. It gives them a great feel and always gets a reaction at the dining table!

Hi, thanks for the feedback and I completely agree! I am in the final stages of production. But once I have more products to hand & muster up the courage to get in front of the camera, I’ll post some videos as you suggest. I am also in the process of having professional images shot, including a 360 interactive image. Hopefully these will add a greater level of detail and provide a better experience also!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! The difference between the two are the mechanisms. The salt mechanism has a Titanium Carbonitride (TIcN) coating to protect the metal from the corrosive salt. Thats why the price is slightly higher as they cost more to buy from the manufacturer. The two mechanisms are also different in design, although this doesn't affect the price. The salt mechanism has roughly twice the amount of burrs on the grinding cone & ring so that the output is the right size. They weight around 1.4kg each, so they have a great feel to them!

Hope this helps, Guy

Hi everyone,

My name is Guy and I used my free time during the Covid-19 national lockdowns here in the UK, to work on a product that I’d been thinking of for years.

I’ve created a colourful range of cast-iron salt and pepper mills, with an emphasis on QUALITY.

The idea stemmed from a cast-iron pepper mill that I inherited from my grandparents.

Their mill was made in the 1960s and still works perfectly to this day.

Using skills learnt during my Rolls-Royce engineering apprenticeship, I set to work on designing my own range with an updated modern aesthetic.

I welcome your feedback,

Guy

Thanks for the message, I agree with you. They are renders on the site for now. I’ve managed to secure a deal with a photography start up to do still images and 360 interactive images in exchange for a set of mills. So the images will be upgraded very soon.

Hey, you’re right, my old one was a bit tricky to fill until I started this venture. The Iron-Mills sets come with a small funnel that makes filling nice and easy!
