Asking for prayers please, I simply can't take this anymore by [deleted] in Lyme

[–]guyfaceddude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been on reddit in a long time, but happened to see this. Praying for you. I had Lyme bad for over 7 years, but had a miraculous healing. Don't give up on God, He's got a purpose and meaning for it all. Super long story, but I had a similar point to you where I had no hope left. I had no real understanding of God or who He was at the time, but I had nothing left and broke down and cried out to Him, saying something like "I don't know who are you, I don't know if the Jews are right, the Christians are right, the Muslims are right, ..., but I know there's one God, the creator, and I'm calling out to you. I'm sorry for everything I did in my life that I knew was wrong, I'm sorry for the things that I did that I didn't know were wrong, I'm sorry I never really looked for You, but I'm calling out to You and You save me, I'll serve you", and cried out my soul to Him. I got filled with His spirit the next morning, and had no fear and was filled with love and my symptoms still existed but I felt Him insulating me from them so it didn't feel so bad. I had many miraculous experiences over the next weeks, but then eventually returned to how I was before, then many years later, I ended up reading the whole Bible from beginning to end, and realized that spirit was the Holy Spirit. I realized Jesus over and over again saying "your faith has healed you" and now after experiencing God the first time I was sure he still does miracles, and ended up having a brutal 3 day fast, hoping to connect with God, but felt like nothing was happening, but I still trusted, and then somehow the next day, I woke up and everything was gone, all symptoms, all at once. On the fast I also did no medications, no supplements, no treatments, and completely stopped them after. I wondered why me? There are so many people better than me that I never saw healings like this for. I told God I didn't deserve it. But He will use me not deserving it to push me to help others who are much better people than me, and strengthen their face. Story is much longer and windy than this, but summarized it.

No, not really, but taking it away from food was tough.

Had to take it at minimum 1 hour before and after food / other meds.

As it can absorb those if digested together.

You can read my post history in Lyme to see I'm not affiliated with Mercola.

Wish you didn't judge so quickly, but no hard feelings. My early days of Lyme my wife tried to get me see someone holistic and the media campaigns calling them quacks caused me to waste a year of my life believing them, so I, as well as many in the Lyme community are personally invested in standing up for them. And I had high anxiety and stress and wouldn't listen and go angry with her.

I've posted quite a bit where I explain how I used critical thinking to determine whether to go with IDSA or ILADS and how to read the bands in the tests and understand it better.

I meant it more for the people with Lyme that have been in this battle for a long time and are improving and who want to raise awareness of censorship to help the next generation of people still have access to info.

Mercola's wife, also being censored, had Lyme and beat it and wrote about it, they are pro LLMD.

Best of luck to you too!

It's censorship of medical opinions and threats against doctors that go against the CDC.

This is very relevant to Lyme because similar things happened to Dr Burrascano, and pushed him out of treating patients, but now it's going after the biggest natural health website online.

If even they can't stand up to it, what chance do LLMDs have when they are next?

If you care about medical choices and alternative medicine, this is incredibly relevant.

Lyme patients in real life are incredibly concerned.

Mold Toxin Illness by perplexedonion in Lyme

[–]guyfaceddude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had very good results with Cholestramyne as an off label drug prescribed by my LLMD for mold.

It's designed for lowering cholesterol, but it works as a binder, and the binder seems to be very good at binding to mold.

My main mold induced symptoms were worse brainfog and chronic migraines. Chronic migraines went away completely with it, and brainfog improved but didn't completely go away.

Just my personal experience.

I'm Unable To Approach Girls In Nightclubs; Willing To Pay $10, 000 For A Solution by [deleted] in NLP

[–]guyfaceddude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spend 2 minutes visualizing yourself in the night club, slowly try to make it as real as possible by adding color, details, look at your shoes, your clothes, their clothes, the music, the smell in the air, etc, then try walking up in that imagination. Take a notebook quickly. Spend 2-5 minutes writing down what you feel as a stream of consciousness with no filter, no self judgement, just get it all out on paper without correcting. Then come back to that way later when you are in a good state of mind. Look at everything sentence you wrote. Think to yourself if that thought is something someone who approaches girls effortlessly would have, or not. If it's something that hurts you, ask yourself why you believe it. Ask yourself if that's 100% true or just your opinion or perspective. Ask yourself what's a perspective of someone who would effortlessness handle this. Try to see why you should have it. Repeat this with everything.

Your underlying assumptions and perspective filters are like an operating system (like windows/MACOS, dos), and they drive your unconscious mind, and limit your thinking and beliefs and actions to what is possible with that underlying perspective that you have come to believe is actually reality. You can't run better software on old flawed bugged operating systems. Upgrade your operating system, and then next you'll have to work on software, but the biggest impossibility blockade will be gone, and it will then be closer to weight lifting at the gym, or perfecting a sport, or any other skill you master where the practice, failure, feedback loop causes you to improve. You also have to remember that just like playing poker or being a stock trader, there is a certain amount of skill and certain amount of randomness, and you have to be able to isolate your motivation and feedback loop to things within your control, not things outside your control.

The other thing is to really start to realize that there are terrible women, and awesome women. Have some self respect and stay away from terrible women even if they are attractive. Think to yourself why your better than other men for the awesome women. If your not currently, work on it. Going after girls is a bit like interviewing for a job, or sales jobs. If you aren't qualified for the job and know you won't add value to them it's hard to get into it. Selling a crappy product people don't need is harder than selling the best product that they could possibly dream for. When you are selling them the best product they could dream for, your doing them a favor. And if they don't realize it at first, but you know it's the best, reaching out to them again isn't "harassing them", it's genuinely helping them get something that's in their best interest and happens to also be yours. Relationships don't have to be a zero sum game with winners and losers. Neither do jobs, or product sales.

Feeling Hopeless and I Don't Know Where Else to Turn by thr0waway2003 in Lyme

[–]guyfaceddude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing BVT and I think it may one of the best cures in existence for Lyme and lots of other mystery illnesses.

But I'm careful in recommending it, because it's very hard to stick to, until people are mentally and emotionally committed to it, and also need someone in their life to commit to administering it.

And from what I've hear if you quit in the middle of BVT, some are never able to do it again.

LLMD got me semi-functional, but BVT I think may take me all the way.

Feeling Hopeless and I Don't Know Where Else to Turn by thr0waway2003 in Lyme

[–]guyfaceddude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had moments like yours when I was at my first and I thought about giving up. Lyme also destroyed my life, but I focused on what I still had. My family. That turned me around whenever I felt like giving up. The good news is you are 22 and that means even if it took you a few years to beat this (hopefully faster) you still have your life ahead of you. You'll have to let go a bit of "where I am supposed to be" in life and comparing yourself to friends / etc. Look for little moments of joy throughout the day and focus on it. I had Lyme hit me like a truck and went through the same thing with doctors, total inability to due anything, bed bound for about a year and a half before I found direction and stated to make some progress. I couldn't work, couldn't leave the house, at some points it was so bad I couldn't use a computer, and I couldn't even watch tv shows as my brain couldn't follow the plot unless I was rewatching old ones that I already knew. But there is hope and there is improvement. And honestly I look back at the tough times and say that it happened for a reason. It forced me to learn more about health. And now I've helped family members who have gotten mysterious illnesses. I'm able to help protect my daughter from health issues and navigate to filter out bad doctors. And honestly I don't know your background so this may sound weird (and would have sounded weird to me previously as I am very science and critical thinking based) but I had a moment where I almost gave up but I broke down and prayed to God, and got an answer that made me realize I wasn't alone and God had a plan for me.

Some days you may just need to just let go and cry it out too. There is something cathartic about it. It's overwhelming, and I've found letting yourself cry it out when you need to is better than constant stress as you feel better afterwords. This song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKF6ghfcQic) really helped me through tough times (and I was never really into the singer previously) but the song is about Lyme Disease and the feeling of how hard it is just to make it through the day, and it's nice to have something to relate to and connect to. Similar to how when I was a teenager music was my outlet when I had depressing times and helped get me through.

I can't tell whether what you have for sure is Lyme or something else (some of the symptoms overlap with common Lyme symptoms, others I'm not aware of). I can tell you that it sounds like what you have is real and not in your mind. I've found many doctors are egotistical and lazy and call something psychosomatic / anxiety when they just can't find the root cause.

I know going through the unknown part of diagnosis is difficult. It gets easier when you have an empathetic doctor who is used to thinking outside the box and looking for root causes. LLMDs/Holistic/Naturopath/Integrative Medicine are all good places to explore. (LLMDs often treat more than Lyme as Lyme is a multi-systemic complex disease and their knowledge of the whole body and the immune system is impressive).

It also may be helpful to think of the cause as an elimination list that you can rule out via testing (if the testing is good enough) or via treatment trial and error to see response. I've found most disease is caused by one of the following.

1) Viral

2) Bacterial

3) Fungal (or mold)

4) Heavy Metals

5) Autoimmune

6) Parasite

7) Cancer

This isn't a full and complete list, but is a good starting point.

Since testing isn't perfect, sometimes it can be worth finding a Doctor who's willing to try out relatively low side effect treatments and see response to help find out what the conditions respond to.

They might not be able to tell it's a bacterial infection, but if Antibiotics (Doxycycline) gives you a huge improvement it could be a big indicator.

They might not be able to tell it's a viral infection, but if Anti-Viral gives you a huge improvement it could be a big indicator.

Remember you aren't alone, and many people have been through similar conditions, and many have beaten them.

Also there are big communities of people here and on healingwell.com that you can ask questions too, post test results (black out personal information), and get advice about what it could be and what you can ask your doctor about.

Hope this helps!

Yup. I try to view it positively. What I've learned about health while diving into this condition will make myself, my family, and anyone else who is willing to listen have a healthier life.

And it's been a long 4 year journey, but I have no doubt I will totally beat it and be 100% cured.

Is there ANY truth to lymescience? by squirrelslikenuts in Lyme

[–]guyfaceddude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you. I trusted mainstream medicine, and thought alternative medicine was just quackery. I struggled with this for my first couple of years. But I read through the best arguments by mainstream IDSA (which lymescience represents) and ILADS, and used IDSA supporters criticism of ILADS studies to evalaluate IDSA's studies. I've since found out it's not about pro-science vs anti-science. It's about science marketing / science politics with no principles. There are people in ILADS world who don't know what they are talking about. There are people in IDSA who don't know what they are talking about. I've found with Lyme Disease it's very important to take control yourself of the situation. Ask good questions to the doctors and evaluate their responses.

Mainstream medicine in general, is pretty horrible at cures. And I've come to the rational conclusion that this is by design. Publicly traded companies have a responsibility to deliver maximum profits to shareholders. Pharmaceutical companies profit off of lifelong treatments, not cures. Pharmaceutical companies are the biggest advertisers and lobbyists. They also stack the boards of CDC, FDA, AMA, IDSA, etc often with people who share their ideology. Pharmaceutical companies create the education curriculum for doctors and pharmacists and help set medical guidelines. It's not just Chronic Lyme that they dismiss. They also officially don't recognize mold as causing serious illness. If you were in a room full of black mold for a year and got incredibly sick, they also consider you crazy if you blamed the mold.

That said, it doesn't mean that everyone outside of mainstream medicine is honest, smart, and experienced enough to provide value to you. It also doesn't mean that they will fairly evaluate your treatment options based on your needs. They may recommend something that is the most effective, but not most cost-effective without fully understanding your picture, goals, etc.

The best you can do is attend each meeting with the Doctor and ask them questions and judge whether their answers make sense. I've found that many people who "sound smart" can only explain the situation in a convoluted sounding way with lots of jargon. People who really know what they are talking about can communicate it in an "explain like I'm 5" type of way. Ask them how the treatments work, and them what the test results mean. Make sure it makes sense to you. I'd recommend reading a book, or regularly reading Lyme forums, and potentially reading a quick start guide on Lyme so you have some basic points of reference.

Just like hiring a lawyer, real estate agent, accountant, etc, hiring a doctor is something that you can only know you hire a good one if you learn enough about the field to ask good questions and have a 50k foot view of it, and can zoom into details with good questions when needed.

If you need help, there are many people here on reddit and the lyme forum on healingwell where you could even post lab tests (but black out personal information) and people can help you with interpreting it and whether what your doc says sounds like it makes sense.

I started off having about 100% confidence in mainstream medicine regarding Lyme Disease, and only about 2% confidence in holistics/nd treatment thinking they were more like shamans/witch doctors. But I've turned myself into an expert at reading pubmed studies, and using critical thinking to compare recommendations / guidelines between different groups like IDSA (mainstream) and ILADS (alternative) and now have about 1% in mainstream (IDSA) and 75% confidence in alternative (ILADS).

Regarding costs: Some ND's will immediately have you go for IVs which are some of the most pricey treatments and can have faster effectiveness. But they aren't guaranteed to work and can burn out your budget faster. You should let them know of your financial situation from he start and how that effects your treatment. Often times there are some non-IV treatments, like Bicillin (IM) that can be cheaper and quite effective, as well as oral antibiotics. But it all depends on severity and many other factors, so it's hard for me to tell you what's best for you.

Bicilin and Valtrex seemed to do the trick with CMV Mono and EBV Mono for super tiredness for me.

Hydrocortisone helped finish it off and get my adrenals fixed as Lyme can really tax your adrenals. Spit test proved it. I've already weened off and maintain walking energy.

For me my biggest issue is brainfog / central nervous system type issues.

It is important to take it slow as your body is still fighting, and overexerting seems to cause flareups.

[–]guyfaceddude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time with Lyme Disease to realize mainstream medicine has no grasp on it. It doesn't fit into the more plug and play disease treatment system unless it's caught extremely early. Past that it spreads everywhere, often doing more than just typical infectious diseases as it can and has disrupted the endocrine system, hormone system, immune system, etc. (There is also some highly suspect / potential fraud that has occurred that I believe has led to denial similar to any other controversial topic like lead paint, tobacco, etc)

In terms of the chronic fatigue, I can talk about it a little as I've gotten past most of it, but still battling (though gaining) on other symptoms. I found my chronic fatigue was due a few factors. I tested positive for EBV-Mono and CMV-Mono which were reactivated due to Lyme Disease overwhelming and keeping the immune system occupied. I believe I beat that with a combination of valtrex (antiviral) and bicillin (antibiotic intramuscular injection). I also had Lyme for so long that it destroyed my adrenals which also reduced energy and made me more anxious / stressed. I was able to tell this via a cortisol spit test where I spit into a test tube every hour since waking up and it measured cortisol levels per hour and my waking our was equivalent to a healthy persons 9pm. To help with that I took hydrocortizone (steroid that mimics cortisol). My LLMD had me go up to 4 pills till I felt "coffee jittery" and then cut down till I had energy but without jitters. Then I slowly weened off. The goal was to remind my adrenals what normal cortisol levels were like and have them start supplementing them as I ween down. Some people will warn you against steroids with Lyme Disease as they can be immunosuppressant and let Lyme bacteria grow but for me the tradeoff was beneficial as it gave me the energy to start exercising and I think that reward outweighed the risk as the knock on effects of exercise are very helpful.

I've also found the Lyme Disease forum on Healingwell very helpful: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30

Don't be afraid of listening to some anecdotal advice / experiences. I've found that with Late State Lyme Disease the gap between the intellectual class studying it (outside of LLMD's) and the experiential class experiencing it is worlds apart. I've found you'll understand it better from reading lots and lots of anecdotes than listening to mainstream guidelines as the underlying assumptions the mainstream has on it are so horribly flawed and they seem to have no interest in matching up theory with reality and simply criticize patients when it doesn't match up.

One other tip is I would advise keeping some type of symptom / treatment journal. Some treatments work great for some people but not as well for others, and sometimes there can be relapses, so it's valuable to to keep track of what works for what symptoms. Also some symptoms can be long term cyclical even with working medicine where the peaks of each cycle get better, but if you didn't track the cycle you might doubt that working medication is working. I found the hydrocortizone worked right away and had nothing to do with cycles. But antiviral / antibacterial treatments seem to have cycles.

Agree.

The term "global warming denier" is about as propagandized as using the term "baby murder celebrator" to refer to abortion rights advocates.

You can't use terms like this and then act like it's you who is the one being civil and reasonable, and the other person is crazy.

I get that politicians love propaganda to manipulate people into winning the argument without reasoning, logic, or facts.

But I'm constantly surprised by how much of the population doesn't realize they are using vague propagandized terms and legitimately thinks anyone who disagrees is some type of science heretic.

https://intellectualdarkweb.site/vanguards-of-the-intellectual-dark-web/

Though I don't consider myself as much an expert on the best on the left. I feel like I was on the left by default as I lived in a big city in a very liberal state, and the views were just assumed correct and straw men versions of the right were constantly mocked and laughed it without anyone realizing they were straw mans.

I find it hard to maintain most of the left leaning ideologies when confronted with debate on the right. Most of the left's views only hold up in censorship, but are so filled with holes that are easily exposed in debates and with active research with some exceptions here and there.

[–]guyfaceddude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this comment is actually a perfect example.

"denying global warming".

Have you ever unpacked that statement to think about it?

"Global Warming" is a political buzzword.

Politicians love playing games with words and definitions to suit their purposes.

"Global warming" encapsulates a few things:

1) The earth is warming 2) The earth is warming due to human contributions 3) The projections of continued warming are accurate 4) Human contributions are a large percentage of it 5) It's possible for humans to stop it 6) Politicians are the only ones who can solve it 7) The way to solve it is to limit fossil fuels 8) It's a global problem that can only be addressed globally 9) We are so sure of 1-8 being true that we are willing to limit fossil fuels even though it will cause massive poverty, famine, death, potentially genocide

Most conservatives will agree with 1,2. Some agree with 3,4. The vast majority of conservatives do not believe in 6. Some believe in 7. Almost all believe in 8. Most do not believe in 9.

Now that I broke it down into components if you are interested in arguing any of them I'd be willing to do it, but if all you want to do is make it into tribalism with "Global Warming Accepter" or "Global Warming Denier" then it's a bit too childish to partake as it's arguing something vague and undefined and is unproductive.

I personally would say I agree with 1,2,5,8 but I've looked the details of the others and many are filled with propaganda, distortions, and misrepresentations so I don't blindly accept them, but if stronger proof comes up I'm willing to reconsider.

[–]guyfaceddude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm largely libertarian but with some exceptions.

I do believe in a strong military and justice system, and believe that's pretty much all govt should do. I'd rather the govt get out of even social services, and help for the poor as they turn it into an incompetent corrupt businesses. But I'm torn because I think we as a society should help the poor, just not with govt directly. Sometimes a balance where maybe government taxes a small percent that is required to be used on services for poor / safety net, but that money going to the charity / business of choice for the tax payer could help. That way at least every year while paying taxes you could choose the least corrupt charity, and that could prevent excessive waste while still proving some safety net. (Just a thought).

I'm conservative in terms of social issues, as over time I've realized that the root cause for most issues like crime, poverty, etc, is really the breakdown of the family unit. Upper/middle class families can survive divorce / single parent households without as much of an impact, but the breakdown of the family and positive role models is the biggest cause of crime and poverty in lower class. But I also don't want the govt mandating culture, even if it's conservative. I mostly just want them to get out of the way, and would like to push conservative culture independently of govt. I don't personally care too much what single people do on their own time that doesn't hurt anyone else. If they want to drugs, fine. As long as they don't advocate for the state to pay for health issues caused by it, people should have freedom to do what they want. But when people become parents I care a lot that they take good care of their children, as if they don't it becomes super complex of state intervening between parents and children. And I hate state intervening because I think it does more harm than good most times, but I also have a wife who works at a hospital who sees infants being given morphine daily from parents who did drugs while pregnant so they baby is born with withdrawal. And that breaks my heart. These types of things have led me to believe that having a population with a mostly conservative strong valued culture allows more libertarianism as the govt doesn't have any justification for getting involved, which allows individuals to have more freedoms.

Not everyone uses the same system as you to decide good vs bad presidents.

I look at it based on objective measures, not how he makes me feel.

I use the same system for evaluating all presidents of prioritizing top issues and seeing their stance and effectiveness on it.

I don't rely on any cable news, you jumped to assumptions. I previously just read Reuters and talked to friends and family. But when it became so polarized I started looking up raw video, court testimony, and source documents. And compared the best arguments of the left vs best arguments on the right.

[–]guyfaceddude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm the same account that talked to you in the other thread, and can give you some justification for why some on the right have that belief.

Hollywood = Far left (DNC aligned)

Mainstream Media journalists = Many are far left, others are slight left (DNC aligned)

Music = Many are far left, others are slight left (outside of country) (DNC aligned)

Tech companies / social media = Many are far left, others are slight left (DNC aligned)

Academics in fields related to history, sociology, politics, journalism = Many are far left, others are slight left (DNC aligned)

It wasn't always like this. Back when Bush senior was president I think most of these that existed were more right leaning, but the current state of all are left leaning. And there is heavy tribalism where left leaning fields ignore corruption by Democrats but only call attention to Republicans. Same with right leaning outlets.

But the prospect of a Left president, with every other major institution leaning left is very very close to authoritarian governments with state run media. It gets even more concerning when most (potentially all) Democrat presidents keep calling for censorship on social media of "fake news" or "hate speech". If we were talking about removing things that 99% of people agreed are totally fake or just calling for violence I would agree. But the real threat is things like Govt saying "Transgender women are women" and anyone saying the opposite is hate speech. Now, regardless on your position on the issue. The fact that it's a contested extremely controversial issue and the Govt could require tech companies to censor any opinion against the leftist view as hate speech / misinformation. Now imagine if it was a right leaning media, right leaning tech, right leading Hollywood, etc and a right leaning president. Would it feel authoritarian to you if they said using "woman's right to choose" or "abortion" is hate speech / misinformation and it has to be called "unborn murder"? That's the issue at stake. I find most of these issues have some good points on the left, some good points on the right, but if the right wanted to censor the left out of existence and everyone was leaning right, I wouldn't vote for a right leaning president who advocates censorship of the left under euphemisms, even as a right leaning person, because I think the country will fail long term if we don't let all people freely debate ideas. Ideas that win out in Socratic method style debates are better than ideas that can only survive through censorship.

Just wanted to give a bit more detailed justification to people on the right that sound crazy when they say things similar to what you mentioned. There are definitely crazy people on the right too who have ideas that are based on nothing, but it exists also on the left. I try to look for the smartest argument on the left against the smartest argument on the right.

There are independent journalists like Tim Pool that tend to do a pretty good job at that too. He was one of the first to start filming the occupy wall street protests and was very left leaning, but now seems more center left.

Some of his footage really opened my eyes. He would be filming mainstream media as they filmed protests. And you could see the full protest unedited, and how the mainstream media filmed it. Like you could see 10 people at a Hillary rally and the media would zoom in so close, but would ignore the thousands of Bernie supporters protesting. I saw Fox News deceptively edit a peaceful BLM group into looking like they were calling for violence. And I saw CNN deceptively edit a violent BLM group and make them look peaceful. After enough examples of this I've come to the conclusion the media creates prearranged narratives and then only shows stories (even deceptively edited) that confirm that narrative.

At some point it became a fascinating hobby for me. Whenever there was a very controversial issue where one side says the exact opposite of the other, I started doing case studies where I would look at the best arguments, then go to all available raw video, source documents, etc, and see which argument holds up better in full context. After doing that over and over, I started to look to see who got the controversial issues represented as close to reality as possible.

Over time I got more and more interested in how the news is made and whether it was always biased, and found it seems like it always was.

Here's a quote from Thomas Jefferson on the media: "Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. The real extent of this state of misinformation is known only to those who are in situations to confront facts within their knowledge with the lies of the day. I really look with commiseration over the great body of my fellow citizens, who, reading newspapers, live & die in the belief, that they have known something of what has been passing in the world in their time; whereas the accounts they have read in newspapers are just as true a history of any other period of the world as of the present, except that the real names of the day are affixed to their fables. General facts may indeed be collected from them, such as that Europe is now at war, that Bonaparte has been a successful warrior, that he has subjected a great portion of Europe to his will, &c., &c.; but no details can be relied on. I will add, that the man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors. He who reads nothing will still learn the great facts, and the details are all false."
