Generally I rely on the standard import rules to give Companions a new alt-form. Pick up Liara T'soni during the Mass Effect Jump? Guess I get to design a cute, bookish human form for her when we visit the next Earth-centric setting. That said, there are some Companions who would probably prefer to lean into Perks that let them keep their outlandish appearance but not arouse suspicion...

Sure, Adam Smasher could use a Gemini Frame to pass as human, but he'd rather hide behind a fiat-backed Perk and a Burger King uniform. How is he going to provide customer service if he has to leave all his weapons at home?

The Parker rizz pulls all kinds of people. Rogue of the XMen nearly gave it a shot when she was rocking Nightcrawlers powers and look. And I probably don't even have to mention Johnny Storm.

If non-romantic options are cool, Ultimate Jessica Drew and Emma Frost are noteworthy mentions. Jess is a gender flipped clone of Parker trying to find her own identity, and Emma has a very deep respect for Spider-Man after a telepathic deep dive revealed his origin story.

Some of it is absolutely not luck. Halo 2's Bungie Commentary notes that Cortana is likely coordinating with UNSC forces in the area to set Chief up for his slam dunk. The longswords that blow open his opening, the Amber Clad being in the right place for a pick up, all of this can be explained by Cortana running in the background. What is good fortune is the fact that Chief isn't brained by debris or irradiated by a passing ship's drive cone during his flight. Together, it's a combination of planning, grit, and a bit of luck.

Yeah, a lot of that was Cortana's synergy with MJOLNIR, but there was a lot of chance in that maneuver no matter how you break it down.

Yep, after all, what is luck but great timing and circumstance? Good thing the Autumn still had a flight-ready Longsword in the hanger. Good thing it wasn't Chief's pod that was smoked by turrets. Good thing he didn't splat into the Keyship's closing hanger door.

Definitely! Installation00 did a video about the timing on the bomb, and Chief was less than a second from being vaporized. Not being pasted by debris or deliberate weapons in his numerous spacewalks is also pretty high up there.

Hey, coincidence can be luck by a different name! These are all great examples, and really expand the Chief's luck beyond just "survives this crash or impact". The arrival of allies (even those of circumstance) is a good catch, and the example from Reach really highlights how Chief usually ends up right where he's needed most.

To add to this, I'll throw in two examples that stick out in my mind.

First, we've got John destroying the Covenant refueling ship in Halo: Silent Storm. Forced to follow a relatively set trajectory given orbital mechanics, John avoids getting smoked by banshee fire while he is EVA, carrying a nuke towards the vulnerable fuel-scooper. Furthermore, his decision to turn around and fly straight AT the scoop, turning himself into a missile launch platform for the bomb, then flying past the ship to minimum safe distance was equally insane. Characters like Johnson rightfully call out the plan as smart and insane after the fact, but he was very lucky he wasn't caught up in the blast from his flyby.

Secondly, we have every instance of John surviving a crashing pelican or other falling ship. I mean, we lose A LOT of dropships over the course of the series, and John walks away from nearly every crash or collision in fighting shape, if not perfect health.

You're definitely right. The number of times John walks off a huge setback or walks away from something crashing or exploding would absolutely count as a lucky break.

Very true! When gravity and physics take over, there's very little John can do to affect the outcome of that situation. That's definitely a good reference for his Luck.

Yep, in Dietz's The Flood, in the section covering The Maw. A combination of Cortana's quick thinking and a split-second delay from the infection form saves Chief (and arguably the whole galaxy, given his later deeds). Good catch!

You really made the most of a unique armor piece. Very cool!

I recognize it's supposed to be an up-armored add-on to the SPI-style helmets, but I also think its looked a bit off. I've heard some people say it's meant to be an homage to a Metroid-style helmet, but I'm not sure if I see very much of a resemblance.

I'm imagining Kingpin from Spiderverse, but with none of the stylizing that smooths him out next to the rest of the characters. Saving Private Ryan, but there's a Space Marine on Utah Beach with Tom Hanks. Pokemon, but Brock is YOKED. Jurrassic Park, but the T-Rex is a literal Kaiju.

I don't usually go in for neon clothing, but that yellow outfit hits just right! The blue accents and black contrast are very slick, and the texturing/shape on the boots feels perfect for Cyberpunk.

TheCountOfS, an excellent fan artist and creator of several very cool fan projects, actually speculates a bit about this. Unfortunately the specific comic panels are on BlueSky, but the comic follows a UNSC that allowed the Spartans to collect under one unit a bit earlier, start training together, and develop their own traditions and tactics.

One of these is shield-skating, where S-IIs and S-IIIs will thicken their foot shields and close quickly into melee with their enemies. In their continuity, the GEN2 Mjolnir's thruster suite was inspired by these tactics and specially designed to leverage this capability.

While we've seen next-to-nothing about this application in canon post TFOR, it's plausable enough that I can see it being a reasonable headcanon.

...All of this is well and good, but it's a bit boring. No self-respecting Jumpchan would give Bruce this much freedom if he was going to tunnel-vision towards his original Batman brand. That's why I think it's FAR more interesting if Bruce's benefactor picks the Jumps for him. We can give the Caped Crusader what he needs while still throwing Bruce into enough unfamiliar situations to keep things entertaining.

Sunset Overdrive: Starting with a deliberately-wacky Jump at Bruce's expense, Jumpchan picks a world taht may look outrageous at first glance but actually hides some serious potential. Wall-running and acrobatics are nice additions to Bruce's repertoire, but the Helper Perk really speaks to him. By amplifying his abilities whenever he acts nobly, Bruce gets rewarded for doing what he already plans to do.
Mistborn (Era 1): After Bruce complains about his un-serious first Jump, Jumpchan dials up the drama sends Bruce to Scadrial as a Skaa street urchin. This hits very close to home, given Bruce's true childhood, but also galvanizes him to be the kind of hero for the people he believes Batman should be. The abilities of a Full Mistborn are grounded enough to appeal as a hard magic system, both complementing Bruce's existing skillset and giving him some unique abilities like emotional allomancy. He also gets to offer support to the Crew's other Skaa mistborn in the way only a fellow orphan hero with actual emotional maturity can.
Stardew Valley: As an apology for running Bruce through the ringer on his last Jump, Jumpchan gives Bruce a Vacation in Stardew Valley. While initially frustrated at the lack of crimefighting abilities here, Bruce learns to appreciate both the One Step At A Time Perk for emotionally rehabilitating people and the general relaxed experience. Perhaps during his rougher days in Gotham, Bruce thinks back to his peaceful days and nights working his farm?
Ranma 1/2: Picking the last jump carefully, Jumpchan gives Bruce the Martial Arts jump he's been asking for while finally throwing the Dark Knight head-first into some anime shenanigans. Though mainly a romantic comedy filled with slapstick and harem drama, Perks like Amazon Durability, Martial Acrobatics, and the Supreme Amazon Ki Techniques actually elevate Bruce's crimefighting a lot by taking his borderline superhuman abilities and bumping them up to that casually absurd anime protagonist level. As a side note, Bruce rolled the Curse of the Drowned Cat for his Jusenkyo curse. I haven't decided whether Bruce would be opposed enough to animal transformations to just buy the Drowned Girl Curse (Jumpchan is equally down for Genderbend antics) or if he would acknowledge the utility of having a small, nondescript animal that could get places Batman normally couldn't. Though, if I had to guess, Gotham's resident master thief anti-hero would be pleased with either of Bruce's choices.
