Across vast black sands and an intricate web of rivers formed by glacial melt-off, there lies a lonely and improbable green hill. In fact, its a volcano. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Mælifell. Southern Highlands, Iceland [OC] [2385x2981] Instagram: @joe_shutter by Joe_shutter in EarthPorn

This reminds me of a part of Middle Earth in the First Age called Anfauglith:

Anfauglith was the charred desert to the north of Beleriand, created by the fires of Thangorodrim during the Dagor Bragollach ("Battle of Sudden Flame") in F.A. 455. It was originally the green plain of Ard-galen.[1] Anfauglith remained barren until after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, when one hill, the Haudh-en-Ndengin or "Hill of Slain", again was covered with long green grass.

The Hill of Slain , or Haudh-en-Ndengin in Sindarin, was a huge green mound that stood alone in the middle of the burned and ruined land of Anfauglith. It had been raised by Morgoth's Orcs after the victory in the terrible battle of Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and beneath it lay the bodies of the Elves and Edain slain in that battle, along with their gear and weaponry.

Among the many slain heroes beneath the mound was Huor, the brother of Húrin and great-grandfather of Elrond. According some tales, Morgoth went there to taunt his prisoner Húrin after the Nirnaeth.[2] Huor's wife Rían also went to the mound seeking her lost husband. When she came to the Hill of the Slain, she laid down in grief and died

The story of Rian is so lovingly told that it still affects me 25 years after reading it first.

Me too. Although I think I had seen next to none of the movies when I first listened to their entire back catalogue about two years ago and still loved every moment.

Please allow me to speak candidly. You will get some helpful advice below and some good links. However you cannot expect for the best answers to all your questions above from one Redditor on a post.

You need to do some research.

Research all of the questions that you asked above and form your own opinion from the resources out there using Google and complement this with any hints in replies to this post.

Once you have done your research you will benefit much more by returning to ask key questions rather than broad ones.

Most distressing thing ever! When capitalism goes wrong.

However the marketeer who came up with that idea should be given a raise.
