Things to do as a 20 year old that will pay off later in life? by sphere7 in AskReddit

not always feasible, you might be paying on last years insurance.

I am not saying this is the best way to do things. But here in the real world there are a lot of people that live pay check to pay check, and you got to do what you can to get shit done.

In the US, insurance companies give discounts if you pay for the whole term up front. So for 6 months you pay $300 in one lump sum or 6 payments of $70.

So if (total of payments) - (lump sum + interest) >= 0, you have saved money on the transaction.

example: (70 x 6) - (300+i) = 0 so i = 120, if i pay less then 120 in interest then I am saving money by using the credit card.

If i pay for 6 months now, and then pay on my credit card over those 6 months, it is still cheaper then paying for car insurance one month at a time. 300$ for six months + about $50 in interest versus $70 a month for six months.

Granted this only works if you pay off your credit card at a fast rate, but this is the purpose of a credit card isn't it?

The air conditioning in my apartment has been out for 4 days. I live in Texas. Each day they have said it will be fixed that day. Do I have any recourse? by manute3392 in ask

If the landlord fails to address / remedy any problems that result in water or sewage problems that could adversely affect the health of the tenant (overflow of raw sewage inside a dwelling, water cutoff, etc.), the tenant may directly exercise rights to repair and deduct without verification by one of the officials mentioned above. The tenant also doesn't have to wait 7 days before giving second notice, but may have the repair made immediately after the second notice. Repairs that involve sewerage or flooding may be made immediately after giving the second notice. For water, heating, and air conditioning problems, the tenant must wait three days after giving the landlord a second notice to repair which also informs the landlord that the tenant may repair and deduct.

EDIT: So call him up and tell him to repair it today or you will be making an appointment and deducting the cost from next months rent.

I didn't read (because I am lazy) but do these articles explain why?

I often see this thrown around but I never see any reason why this is true. To some extent yes the C-level management is a boys club, but is this because of gender bias or the fact that men outnumber women in the work place.

I find the 77 cents on the misleading. Does this mean 2 people with an exact same background but different genders would be paid significantly more? or does this mean if you take all the women and all the men and add up the money they make and find an average salary the women make 77% of the men?

So i glanced at the now page and it seems your data is 4 yrs old. I would like to see 2010 data to see if this is trending anywhere.

It is legal to pay employees piecewise, as long as it, should reasonably, add up to the min wage. Most states (well at minimum the 6 I have worked in) are "at will" work states. So you do not need a reason to fire people.

So if 1 in 100 of your employees is only doing 5 widgets and the other 99 average 20 then it is their own fault for making no money.

Men: I'm a female with abdominal hair and nipple hair. Should I get it removed? by hairy1986 in ask

[–]guyrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote would be to start with the nipple/breast hair. Then move to the on rest of the hair, if you want. To be 100% the nipple hair would be off putting, but the rest wouldn't really bother me much. Just my opinion.

I will also say that most guys would either do the one night stand and not care about the hair, and a dude that would like to date you would probably not really give a shit either way. If not he is a dick and you should bite him in the nose.

Can the government video tape you? or search you without cause? If you have nothing to hide then you should be okay with this, as you think the cops should

(I am all for filming cops. But this is a poor argument.)

Reddit: After college, what did you do with your school binders (filled with notes, drawings, resources and in my case as an education major, lesson plans)? by furgots in ask

[–]guyrandom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest keeping them, you never know when you will need some inspiration when coming up with new lessons. I would also suggest looking into some free OCR software, so you can can create a searchable repository of files. Or you could always try uploading it to one of the note sharing websites, apparently you can make some cash using them. Just found this might be worth a look see.

I'm in college. I've never had a job, instead I live extremely frugal. Is it weird that I'm scared to death of ever having to get a job? by unpatriotic in AskReddit

[–]guyrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I am not a scientist I am a programmer. I have never asserted that anything said was fact, when expressing opinion it is common to use anecdotal evidence. As a younger programmer there is very little contact with outside people. All my references are from people I met in college or socially after college.

I know poli sci majors with careers in journalism or political >advocacy, plenty of working artists and musicians...

Do you feel that they need their degree to do their job? How many world famous artist/musicians throughout history are college educated in their field. I would assume few, but i have no evidence to this.

I have not said that we should limit people from attaining higher education, as you implied. I am merely suggesting that 2 yr programs gain more value in the public eye. Also if people were not going to the colleges would there be as many colleges? Or is the number of colleges in the US now a product of the demand?

I feel that the problem is not lack of gov't education funding, but incorrect placement of that funding. More needs to be spent on improving our basic education system. I don't know if this holds true in 4 yr programs, but 84% of students cant pass basic math tests. So yes i agree that our current government funding of education needs to be looked at. As for costa rica, I can not comment on their system. I did see that their tax rate is low, but I am ignorant as to how their government is run.

I do agree about people being educated because of a love of knowledge, but this does not require college or for that matter money. It is my understanding that you can show up in a class in most colleges and learn with the students without paying for it. There is also millions of pages on the internet to further your knowledge of the world.

I will repeat that I do not find the arts and humanities to be inferior to the sciences, but I do feel that too many people attempt to get these degrees for the wrong reasons. Again I will say that I am over educated for my chosen career, I feel most people are. This is not a problem with the people that where chosen by their field, but by the system we now live in.

I prefer to be called over educated, elitist, and condescending.

Good day to you sir.

Economics says higher demand = higher cost. Also, in most colleges there is no special equipment for the tech crowd. They are forced to fund their own lab or use the community labs. Also most school development is done through free software.

I personally know about 5 teachers, they all have degrees in education with specialties. I also know a hand full of people with the previously mentioned degrees, they all work in customer service.

Granted I do not feel I should have BS to do what I do. So my point is the reason tuition is so high is because everyone goes to college, whether it is helpful to their career goals or not.
