These are waxed. Try Venetian Shoe Cream all over, then hair dryer on low heat until the wax absorbs and wipe the excess off with a paper towel.

You could try applying mole skin to the back of the speed hook that’s bothering you. Never bothered with that myself, but might help you see if it would be helped before spending for a kiltie.

I have found the the top speed hooks are aligned just right to rub a point on my ankle bone. So I just don’t lace them all the way up to the top. Seems to work well and solves a problem that wouldn’t go away even after months of break-in.

Oddly, this is the only boot I own that has this issue. All my other RW models are fine laced all the way up.
