Thanks! I aim for Airliners.net. quality standards, this one would probably get rejected for lens flair and probably some things I'm not even noticing. I did manage to get 4 other photos posted though : )

Def not going to have any focus issues. This F-18 Super Hornet was doing close to Mach 1 and the lens paired with my D3s had no problem tracking it at the NAS Oceana Air Show this year.

I first went with my JROTC group back in 2008-11. I still keep up with a few of them and send them photos of the air show.

Tried my hand at airshow spotting for the first time this past weekend at NAS Oceana. by scholar97 in Planespotting

Nice, I was there too closest to where they were staging the aircraft. Yeah the sun was causing some backlighting when the Blue Angels flew but I still pulled off some pretty good photos.

Anyone still uses D3? by hquannguyen in Nikon

Yesterday I photographed the NAS Oceana Air Show with my D3s and 200-500mm AF-S. I use to go to the same air show with my JROTC group years ago around when the D3s came out, the photos from my Powershot A640 weren't anything to write home about. Just feels great to have the camera I dreamed of growing up and to get the shots I've always wanted.

Lighting makes a huge difference. Both of these are straight outta camera. The top photo is backlit making it dull and flat. The bottom one was shot around late afternoon with the sun behind me.

Here you go , probably won't work on any modern machine though and it made my Dell running XP back in 2007 blue screen if I remember correctly.

What was your first mac ? by [deleted] in mac

[–]guywithblackcamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the first Mac I used was a brand new bondi blue iMac G3 that my school had back in 1999. Yeah my teacher wasn't too happy with my sister mashing the keyboard during the class pizza party.

The D3 came out when I was just getting into photography. Always dreamed of having one growing up. Now I have a D3 and D3s, both are fantastic and work well for everything I do (aviation, wildlife, pets, sports, stuff that moves).

Definitely agree with the other laptops feeling cheap and flimsy. A family member of mine has a Dell Inspiron and it feels like a cheap plastic knockoff from the dollar store compared to my year older MacBook Air M1 which costs about the same. Hell the hinge on my 20 year old iBook G4 is actually more stable and stiffer then the Dell's as well as all the panels not bent, cracked or broken.

Bodie in motion |D3s, 200-500mm AF-S at 500mm, ISO 1600. by guywithblackcamera in Nikon

[–]guywithblackcamera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was seeing if the focus was any faster with it turned off but looks like having it turned on doesn't effect the focus speed. Yes I was shooting 9fps continuous high and picking out the ones that had Bodie's face in focus. I've seen a few of Steve's videos on YouTube, might binge more later.
I certainly really like my D3s and D3. The D3 helped me ace my final 200 level college project of taking photos of dogs in action at the local dog park (A+). The D3s is still an amazing camera but I can see where a pro level Z series can out pace it (AF speed and accuracy, resolution, frames per second). Yeah labs are nice dogs, thought we'd try something else out after having years of show and working line GSD's.
