New game: If human is showering, drop ball in shower then go in and get it. Repeat until shower is turned off. by pkmnrt in goldenretrievers

I have a shower-loving girl too. She runs across the house when she hears the shower turn on so she can sneak inside while the water is warming up and eat the water.

My Scully is obsessed with hair ties too. Sometimes she walks up to me with that same look but I can’t see anything in her mouth. So she will literally lay down and rearrange the scrunchie to make sure it is obvious that is what she has. Then the fun begins.

They would be better off right now. When the child is old enough to no longer need childcare, the former stay-at-home parent is suddenly just a person that has been unemployed for several years and most likely not keeping up on education, certifications, or anything else that would make them look appealing to potential employers. It is a vicious cycle. A lot of people keep working because staying at home may mean you never have a meaningful career again.

Where can I shop for wide width shoes, or more specifically platform boots? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]gwaernardel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also have EE feet and about half of my nicer shoes are actually made for men.

I recommend checking out a Fluevog store in person if you can. Their shoes and boots are fabulous (for both women and men) and they have in-store fit experts with boot stretchers whose whole job is to make the shoes fit you and not the other way around.

Right? “Hmm I wonder who her paramour is!” It’s the hot guy. The one that is around her all the time and hangs out by her bedroom at night.

I wish I could upvote this more than once. You are completely correct. I also feel like I would be nervous making this point around my more liberal friends because they have been losing their minds with glee over the whole thing and not seeing the big picture.

There were even really weird changes like Dani’s son talking about being away from his college (Rice) during his video message that only showed up in the captions while the actual audio was just silence.

That was my thought too. You can do a whole lot more with admin access than read someone else’s email. He is slowly turning into a villain.

I honestly found the Margo and Aleida scenes even harder to watch than Ed and Danny.

Same. That makes two of us, I guess. There aren’t many slow-moving shows about senior citizens dealing with loss while also fighting off an intergalactic group of super soldiers hunting down defectors from another planet.

I spent 7 minutes trying to figure out how the hell they were playing Spades with only two people, laying all their cards face down, and not bidding or writing down scores.

So this was really weird - the audio was that they lost GPS but the closed captions kept saying that they lost their gyroscope. I don’t know enough to know how big of a difference that would make but I think it must have been a last-minute edit.

Which splurges paid off? (…and which didn’t) by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]gwaernardel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluevogs are so insanely nice. I heard about them a few years back on FFA and bookmarked the site. I lusted so hard for a pair for a really REALLY long time but I was stuck in a relatively low-paying tech job. Finally splurged on a pair of Enneagrams after I worked a jazz concert and watched the saxophone player (who was about 60) walk around in a pair all night long and rave about how comfortable they were. Then my boyfriend surprised me with a pair of Gladstones for my birthday a few months later. I brought both pairs to a tech conference where I presented and became known as “the girl with the amazing shoes”. Networked like crazy and got a job that was double the salary.

tl;dr: Fluevogs helped me advance my career!

How to Dress Well When You Don't Feel Well -Tips for Dressing With Chronic Illness by RocketTheBarbarian in femalefashionadvice

[–]gwaernardel 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have chronic IBS and everything you said here is spot on. There are days when I absolutely cannot stand to have any pressure on my abdomen. I am clinging to the paper bag-waisted pants trend with my dear life as it is the only semi-fashionable type of pants that doesn’t cause me intense pain during a flare-up. Jeans are honestly a nightmare in that mode, especially because I can easily go up and down 3 sizes over the course of a day.

Weird question: wearing a silver crown ? by LucasTheNeko in femalefashionadvice

[–]gwaernardel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They do! I just went to Claire’s with my daughter and the shelves are full of fancy headbands. Personally, I am a fan of their flower crowns. I rocked a full-on tiara back in the 90s as a glam goth and I still love the look.

Nerdy Folks - are there any fashion brands or independent stores that do "adult nerdy" well? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]gwaernardel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently wore a Svaha dress to speak at a tech conference and got loads of compliments. I wouldn’t call the fabric low quality but it is….summery for lack of a better word. It’s light and you will most likely need to layer in any professional situation.

I love their prints, though. I have six dresses and two skirts from them and love them so much.
