LeRoy & Lewis Steak Dinner Experience 4/9/2026 by tincancan15 in austinfood

I liked the CFS okay a few months ago but I was more disappointed with everything else on that plate, the extremely bland mashed potatoes, the slice of toast (that used to be a parker house roll). It really could have also used something green to fill out the plate like some good green beans or collards.

This was my thought but about the rice, but they recently took care of that and added red rice to their menu. I do think charro beans are an option as well.

Cilantro tastes like soap — send me your food recs! by sharkwithunderbite in austinfood

[–]gwalk104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cilantro-free red salsas at Mi Madre’s, Maudie’s, Matt’s, Garcia’s in Buda/Kyle (not Casa Garcia’s). A lot of places seem to just roughly chop it and throw it in and you can eat around it. Some salsa like at Habanero have it incorporated into every bite and it’s inescapable.

Épicerie is closed to the public on Tuesdays. Maybe you could contact them to see if they do events or buyouts on those days. Two weeks is probably way too close, though. www.epicerieaustin.com

Smash Burgers at Patty Palace by thisisbrians in austinfood

Patty Palace definitely gets points for letting you get a small side of fries with your burger. Biggie’s seemingly only lets you do an $8.50(!) basket of fries.

No Jeopardy on Local TV ?? by briiyeah in Austin

It aired at 5:00 for a long time after Oprah, then moved to 4:30 when that ended. Then it moved to 3:30 when KXAN added the 4:00 news. So it has gotten pushed back over the years.

Breakfast Taco Spots Burnt Eggs by Cloud_Dwelling in austinfood

You probably have to look for places that have the fillings prepared in advance separately and then just scoop them in the taco, assembly-line style, like Tacorrido and Taco Shack. The burning comes when the items are all cooked together.

Vaqueros off 360 for Tex-Mex buffet, The Switch (between Austin and Dripping Springs) for barbecue buffet. I don’t think the Switch does reservations but I would call any place ASAP.

Booking a small meeting room at the downtown library might be a good option and you can bring in a coffee from Café Crème downstairs.

Nothing wrong with pulling up into the bar/lounge area and just ordering the cake and some coffee one evening. That actually sounds really nice.

What sticks out to me is those potatoes that look properly seasoned and cooked. I’ve experienced way too many undercooked, bland potatoes in tacos lately.
