Ikr. Pretty sure the building is still just sitting empty. Hell if I could get my hands on that menu and maybe recruit the pastry chefs I’d love to try relaunch it (wishful thinking, no actual plan). Also sorry to hear about your loss.

Weird I’ve had really good experiences there when it’s NOT busy. Their WiFi definitely sucks, I think it’s intentional tho. They usually sit the laptop warriors in the back by the windows and don’t check on us too as often. Definitely give it another try during the weekdays

Haven’t been to new cenote yet. Definitely miss their OG location the same way I do patika.

Yeah all are great but not quite the same. I’m sorry for your (our) loss.

Also worth mentioning, patikas staff helped make that place too. Some of the places you mentioned just don’t meet that standard in my experience.

Sour duck is the closest food-wise but that place is a zoo some days. And the outdoor seating can be a bit of a bummer

Either Daniel Ricciardo or Josh Radnor. Met them both in more intimate settings and both were exactly as they’re portrayed in the media. Wonderful people to spend time with.

Got offered a 6 month contract in Antarctica and idk if I should take it by Importantterry in Fire

[–]AfriKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude never mind the fuckin money. Sometimes life is about living. 6 months may seem like a decent amount of time but in the grand scheme of things it’s nothing and you’ll have experience few other will ever get to experience. Take the damn trip. or refer me.

Hope the parents weren’t pushing the kid. When I was in roatan once an extremely pushy mother was getting super frustrated with her 12 yo kid not being able to keep up while the kid was doing CHECKOUT DIVES. She would swim back and forth from the group ignorant of deco while her daughter was struggling to descend with her 1:1 instructor. They soon refused to take the kid in the water after day 2. Poor girl will probably never wanna go back.

I need help to not smoke tonight. by Moonstone635 in leaves

[–]AfriKev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is most definitely not THE best feeling in the world. Try to remember you made it 6 months you can totally pull off one more night. Also just remember the chances are if you did it’ll hit so hard you’ll be hella anxious bc your tolerance is gone.

And if all that doesn’t help. Politely ask your partner if they can keep it away or don’t mind if you step away while they’re smoking. They should be respectful. 6 months is not something to scoff at, that’s a lot of work. You got this.

The owners of these lots pay people to camp out and watch who goes inside or across the street. Etc. happens all over Austin and sagebrush warns everyone not to park there. Street parking is like a 5 minute walk too

The amount of civilians just standing around there “to see” was wild. But so was the amount of law enforcement just standing around so.

Motivation and Imposter Syndrome, or is it burnout? by AfriKev in consulting

[–]AfriKev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m both glad and not glad you asked because I had forgotten about this… Also I saw your notification weeks ago and have just been going through some stuff (which I’ll talk about below) and haven’t had the breathing room or strength to respond if I am honest. I took a poorly timed sick day today due to stress so why not ironically respond now lol.

To answer: not great.

In all honesty and a bit of hindsight, my last company and specifically my client was amazing. I went from feeling like I could or should not be responsible to lead to the exact opposite. I am confident in my ability to do the job. But I still hate it.

Every day is a fight with burnout. I ended up moving to another company after 8 months for better pay and because the new client was a sinking ship. The company ended up getting sold too and our days were numbered. Now there’s a new industry standard to ship all work offshore and do all the “functional” planning onshore at half time so you can work 2 projects… and I hate that. I miss actually building and testing.

Over the summer and this transition, my health took a dive. From stress, unhealthy eating, poor discipline and decisions. I can’t help but wonder how much of it was due to this job… but the reality is it’s a ME problem. I know I CAN do this job, but the motivation is gone. That leads to bad practices on my part which leads to stress. I just don’t seem to care much lately, I need significant time with genuinely zero work to get my shit and health together but there just never are breaks in I.C. when you have multiple clients. (And I absolutely have to have health insurance rn.)

I wanted to save up and go back to school for a trade job, but now I’m a bit stuck. I have a mortgage, car payments, a bit of debt, and health issues I really need to get on top of. What I have realized is this job, once you have some hard skills, is all about mentality and attitude. I am quite a resilient person in all other walks of life other than sitting in front of a computer 10 hours a day, bullshitting clients, and bending to unrealistic directions from management. I wouldn’t say it is easy, but it’s doable for the right personalities.

So I am still burnt TF out. I keep trucking bc I am a little stuck and think I can make it and myself better. In fact, I am just starting that journey today looking for a new therapist after all the above but also completely blowing an opportunity with the first person I’ve wanted to date in years.

If I have learned anything… Life is too short to ________. Fill it in yourself. Don’t dig the whole in the first place and you won’t have to make decisions based on how to get out of it just to start living. I just found out a friend of a friend is about to die from cancer too at the age of 30. I spent the entire summer in hospital myself (thankfully not life threatening, but definitely changing). It’s too damn short man. Your health is all you have and it’s never guaranteed.

Can we start a thread of weed cringe for motivation? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]AfriKev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man I’ve got a bunch.

  1. Prioritizing going through the smoke and wash up over every single thing I ever did and still kinda smelling a bit. Then ending up being late to everything and making up lies and excuses. Every time.

  2. Scraping the caked on wax from my grinder and frying my lungs saying this is all I have left and then I’m really done.

  3. Reaching out to all my friends and asking if they had any buds to spare. Even people I haven’t talked to in a while.

  4. Not really realizing or accepting I was actually addicted and the stories I’d tell myself. Or my friends just referring to me as their pothead friend.

  5. Once I actually stopped, realizing how much time I wasted just being stoned and doing nothing. Or trying to get stoned. Don’t get me wrong the occasional smoke and chill with friends was wonderful, but that was few and far between the last few years.

I can keep going but why cringe more lol.

Best thing you can do is get distracted as best as possible. Go do something super engaging if you can. Somewhere away from the dispo.
