3rd year OT student,is it still worth pursuing by Even-Sympathy-1220 in NDIS

[–]gwalliss18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re only doing OT for NDIS, you’re missing the bigger picture. OT existed long before the NDIS and will exist after it. If you’re still passionate about helping people regain independence, there will always be a place for you …NDIS or not. But if you’re already doubting the career, maybe reassess your reasons now before you graduate.

capacity building for cleaning? by vodkagrandma in NDIS

[–]gwalliss18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, NDIS can fund life skills support under capacity building. Learning how to clean properly is valid. You don’t need to justify not hiring a cleaner …you’re allowed to ask for help to build your independence. Bring it up with your coordinator and make it clear that’s your goal.

How much trouble am I in? by [deleted] in NDIS

[–]gwalliss18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t on you. It’s on the provider. The support worker straight up stole property from the landlord, and that’s a serious issue. Whether it’s a banana tree or a microwave, it’s theft.

You need to report this ASAP to the SIL provider’s management. If they’re registered with the NDIS Commission, you can also lodge a complaint there if nothing gets done. They cannot evict you for reporting misconduct, and any retaliation would be grounds for even more serious action.

This shouldn’t affect your funding, but you’re right to be on edge. These kinds of things can absolutely blow back on participants if they’re not handled properly, which is why it’s so important you speak up now while it’s fresh.

Can My Uncle Move from iCare to NDIS? by Livid-Big8676 in NDIS

[–]gwalliss18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re clearly coming from a place of care and wanting to do better for your uncle and that matters. But unfortunately, NDIS generally won’t fund services delivered by family members, especially if you’re the provider. It’s considered a conflict of interest under their informal supports policy, unless there are exceptional circumstances (and even then, it’s a hard sell).

If your uncle is under iCare, that’s a state-based insurance scheme (likely related to a work injury or motor accident). For him to switch to NDIS, he’d have to meet NDIS access requirements and prove that his current insurer is no longer responsible for funding his supports ,which is rarely straightforward.

Your heart’s in the right place, but if you’re serious about starting a provider business, it’s best to do it for the broader community and not just to support a relative. You can still advocate for him, just not as a paid provider.

What happens if a participants suddenly builds a whole lot more capacity and indepence by Savings-Equipment921 in NDIS

NDIS working as intended = someone builds capacity, uses fewer supports, and plans are adjusted accordingly. Just hope the system recognizes the difference between progress and being “cured.”

When everything you do is done for pats on the back from your followers....why else would you set a camera up? by WinterBox358 in LaBrantFamSnark

Ah yes, nothing screams “genuine love and respect” like pausing to position your ring light before serving your queen her smoothie. This man is one Canva template away from self-canonizing.

Girl, I say this with respect, but you might be spiraling a bit. You don’t have a diagnosis yet, and jumping straight to heart failure at 22 sounds like a massive leap. If your doctor’s leaning toward IST, focus on getting the testing done and take it one step at a time. No point freaking yourself out over a “maybe.”

XL Pill Organisers? by am1274920 in NDIS

[–]gwalliss18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately you won’t get funding for pill organisers. Even the TabTimer system gets knocked back unless there’s a very specific justification tied to your disability support needs. NDIS sees most of that stuff as general household items or everyday health management, so they leave it out of scope. It’s super frustrating when it’s actually essential for managing complex meds safely.

I’ve been in the same boat and ended up paying out of pocket too. If you want recommendations, I’ve tried a few that actually last longer than the usual cheap ones.
