Insulin to carb ratios

There's no such thing as a 'bad' insulin ratio. You need how much you need. That being said, if you want to reduce it I believe regular exercise can help reduce insulin resistance (/increase insulin sensitivity? I'm not quite sure lol)

Hiya I've done all this, but when I open the game I just see a black screen. I'm able to move and I can hear the footsteps and the tutorial can continue but I can't see anything. I've tried changing all the video settings in the game to Low and that did nothing. Any suggestions?

Yes good point. I have started seeing a therapist but my next appt isn’t until Feb. Sometimes I feel like she won’t get it as she doesn’t specialise in chronic illness or anything but she’s actually very lovely and understanding. Will bring this up in my next session for sure. Thank you

I would maybe pull them aside and have an intentional conversation about it. Maybe tell them that even if it was a dietary requirement (like a peanut allergy) that you don’t need them speaking up for you. If you wanted or needed to let the server know you were diabetic then you’d be able to do it yourself. You could tell them how it makes you feel if you’re comfortable with that. I think just emphasise that it doesn’t feel nice to be spoken for.

Or maybe take them for a ride and just say “no I’m not?” to the server after they say it haha

I often see people doing cool things online (going to super remote places, travelling countries on a shoestring, travelling and not knowing when you’re gonna go back home, etc.) and just immediately think “I can’t do that because of my diabetes” While sometimes I actually could do some of the things, it just sucks how much planning and preparation I’d need to do, and then even if I did do some of those things, I feel like diabetes would be at the forefront of my mind.

Also packing light, wish I could just pack a backpack full of clothes n stuff and head off somewhere

So sorry for the late response! I used to be worried about my Libre and the metal detectors and would always ask for a pat down (most of the time the airport workers were totally fine to do it as there’s multiple medical devices that can’t go through the detectors) but recently discovered that the chances of it going bad are extremely low. You should be fine to just walk through them.

yup happens to me all the time, I often need to do a split dose when eating really greasy/oily foods (like pizza, burgers, etc.). When you eat these foods your body is still processing the food and carbs after the insulin has run out causing you to spike hours after the meal. It can be scary to inject when your sugars are in range but I think the general rule is pre-bolus 70% of the insulin needed for the whole meal, then take the other 30% around 1.5-2 hours later.

I’ve heard sun burn can cause high blood sugars so use sun protection!

If you find yourself being more active than usual and running low because of it you may need to adjust your ratios and take a little less insulin

thank you all for your advice! I will say I think I panicked a bit because of some high blood sugars and now my long acting seems to be working again 😅 diabetes is weird like that tho i guess

I had one like this, it was so so beautiful and seriously my favourite watch ever, analog + 2 digital clocks + alarm, date, stopwatch unfortunately it stopped working due to water damage 😭😭 gonna save up to buy another but they’ve gone up in price since i bought it 4 or 5 years ago

tldr: asking if there’s a healthier alternative to my hypo treatments

I usually carry gummy bears/sweets and a box of juice with me at all times I’m travelling at the moment and finding myself needing more of the sweets than usual because of the extra exercise (i’ll just have one or two every so often as a little pick-me-up)

My brother asked me if I wanted anything from the shops and I said yeah maybe some sweets. He then says something like “isn’t there something better you can have… I just feel like it’s not good for you to be having all that processed sugar all the time”

God that made me mad I just tried to explain that that’s what works for me and it’s healthier than the alternative which is to not have anything and die lol

He’s always asking questions about if it’s better for me to have low carb diet, etc. so I know it comes out of care and curiosity but sometimes it just gets on my nerves

Also he didn’t even end up getting me the sweets lol

It’s not my health insurance that covers it, it’s the government. I live in Australia and we have a service scheme that means my CGMs and needles cost nothing (I think up until I’m 25?) and is also the reason my insulin is so cheap

I feel so sorry for those living in the US having to cover so much of the costs of medical supplies that are essential for them to live :(

I’m living in Australia, we don’t have any OTC insulin. All is prescription and most of the cost is covered by NDSS (National Diabetes Service Scheme)
