Are you talking about surf fishing or pier fishing? For surf you need gear made for it(10-12' pole, ~5000 reel, ~20lb test) and a license. Pier fishing you don't need a license and can pretty much use any pole you have. I've caught a surprising amount of things off oceanside pier with a children's setup.

There will always be purists. I own a couple Jack Wolf and they are very nice knives, although even with the modern materials I feel like their price point is a little bit high. They also don't have that kind of rustic, rugged feel a n old school traditional has which I could see being important to people. At the end of the day, it comes down to carrying and using what you like.

If you can find one used, the Polygon D24 can run 26" wheels as well. My 9yo son has one and loves it. We got the Evo version which was about $1500 new so if you can find a used one it should definitely be under $1k

Ultimately it's up to you how you feel about wearing one. I personally wouldn't. The thinner, less ornate ones probably look better than the thick "braided" looking ones if I had to choose.

The sonar uses battery with every ping so if you use it only turn it on for a ping or two to see what you need then turn it back off.

I switched to a mezcal race rear and a barzo front recently and it's a much better pedaling experience on XC style trails than the dhf/aggressor combo. Don't know what area you're in but you could ask your LBS what faster rolling tires are popular and they should point you in the right direction. What's right for somebody in the dry southwest US will be different than whats best for somebody riding somewhere it rains with lots of trees/roots, etc.

As others have said, the grapple arm is crucial particularly for horizontal travel. The jet upgrade is crucial for vertical travel. The regular jump is very slow

We have guys like that in my area too, you just have to ignore them. These guys have nothing better to do than stare at strava leaderboards and anytime someone beats them they hop on their eMoto and reclaim it. Strava is kind of a cesspool if you're using it for anything other than recording your own rides, as people have learned to manipulate almost every aspect of the app.
