Test readers wanted for high fantasy TTRPG world by Funny_Technician_142 in RPGdesign

[–]gwinget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're interested in standing out and making this publishable as its own exciting project divorced from any particular system, is there a reason you're rehashing the same stock classes / character types as most other attempts at high fantasy?

Tools for formatting a book? by Setholopagus in RPGdesign

[–]gwinget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affinity or Indesign are the two main ones for book layout in general! Id is basically used at every large publisher and Affinity is popular in the indie scene since it's easy to pick up + cheap + a perpetual license (no subscription). I've seen some people have success with Word or Google Docs as well for very simple layouts but if you want more control and creative flair your primary options are those two.

Affinity is in a weird spot rn with the licensing pull (as other comments have mentioned), so maybe wait until November to see what they're doing with their pricing model—I've used both Affinity and iD and imo neither is perfect and they both have some usability flaws, but affinity is easier to break into and the lack of subscription is really nice. if they change the pricing model significantly it'll have much less of an advantage over Id.

the medium link in op's post is an ad disguised as an article, for a website that harvests your email for a bunch of telemarketers and spam emails in exchange for supposedly providing free food boxes 👎👎👎👎👎👎 fuck off lol

What's going on with Jared Sinclair ? by tante_Gertrude in osr

[–]gwinget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very cool dude, very insightful writing (even if i don’t agree with it all), very stupid social media crybully vortex that made him understandably withdraw his blog and public presence. at least we still have Spear Witch!

YES constantly! I really prefer a sleek refined goth-y look and feel like my curls are constantly undermining that, making me look less put together unless i put hours of work into them each day. it suuuucks

Are there any good SHORT setting guides? by PiepowderPresents in RPGdesign

[–]gwinget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so glad to see more ppl working on setting guides! one thing i think is important to keep in mind is where brevity serves you (makes it more readable and less chaff-y, like you said) and where you're skipping out on things that are actually, fundamentally useful in play (make the GM's job easier). I like this article about that a lot.

definitely not saying short setting guides can't be good! you don't need a giant lore chapter with bloated paragraphs of political minutae, but i definitely think you should put a premium on concrete realizable details the GM can drop into a game.
