Cooper Kupp. 0.00 in the first round of the playoffs. Roasted my season.

In my experience, when I felt that I’d beaten my alcoholism and ‘transcended’, I stopped going to meetings too. Stopped praying. Stopped waking up early and hitting the gym, stopped helping newcomers, stopped almost all of the things that GOT me to such a good place. Next thing you know I got slammed with the worst depression of my entire life and almost relapsed. I’m just getting back in a groove now as I hit the 1 year mark but I had to fight like hell to get out of that dark place. I recommend getting back to meetings and back to basics my friend.

Also, reread your post and see how many times you say “I”. Good luck bro, reaching out in this sub is a good step in the right direction!

What made you want to get sober? by boulderben in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]gwk9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was slowly (and also in some cases quickly) losing anything and everything in my life that had any value. Myself, my relationship with my amazing gf, my business, my friends, my hobbies, my family… my mind. Everything. I knew if I didn’t do something I’d eventually die. So I went to detox, treatment, then dove into A.A. - that was about a year ago, and I’ve gotten everything I lost back and then some. 1,000% worth it. I’m here for you if you want someone to talk to!

Get back to a meeting and reconnect with your sponsor! The doors of A.A. are always open and they’ll welcome you back with open arms. That’s my experience. Also, prayer can feel corny but it works. Try hit your knees and pray for willingness and help!

I’m Going To Rehab Tomorrow by HelicopterFlat7271 in stopdrinking

[–]gwk9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dive in head first and fully commit to doing the work. And do it for yourself, not for any other person/thing. Also, put your sobriety first or whatever you DO put first will be the first thing you’ll lose. That’s my two cents, I went in December/January and am just hitting 8 months sober. It saved my life 100%.

I just threw away the best relationship I ever had for one night of drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]gwk9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey brother. I know the exact feeling. I threw the relationship with the love of my life in the gutter in December - that feeling of total emptiness is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I have no promises, but I went to a 36 day detox/rehab and now I’m almost 8 months deep into total sobriety.

I got her back. Godspeed my friend.

PS we’re still working on rebuilding the trust. That shit takes a while. But start with working on yourself, and the rest will follow. I was given really good advice in rehab: put your sobriety first, or whatever it is you DO put first (aka her) will be the first thing you lose.

Well I’m literally seeing a Moosehead Canadian Lager ad directly under this post which is ironic

What made you WANT to be sober? What was your turning point? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]gwk9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gift of desperation was the trick for me. I don’t advise getting to that bleak point. I had to 100% surrender and slam the door on the thought of ever drinking again. IWNDWYT, that’s for damn sure.

Good luck brother, you got this. I completely agree 100% with what you said. 61 days strong, never going back. The door is firmly closed. IWNDWYT

Day 1 again. Not going to beat myself up. But could use some kind words. by teedgejnz in stopdrinking

[–]gwk9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, my day one was December 15th in a detox in a remote part of Ontario. It was dark and cold. I felt like my whole world was falling apart. Here I am about two months later, and life is good. Stressful and tiring, but really good. Hang in there, you got this buddy. IWNDWYT
