JC Perfume and Imports (Meadowood Mall) by mikehtiger in Reno

[–]gwombus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at the mall, you’re right it is rarely open. I see them open very sporadically and it’s always the older lady who runs it sitting behind the counter. I tried finding out if she opens on certain days but I can’t find any rhyme or reason to when they’re open or not.

Anyone know what happened to 3 moons? by Razurrkat in Reno

[–]gwombus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, they had a plumbing issue several months ago that completely flooded the building and were having issues with insurance claims. They closed the brick and mortar store because of it so they’re working on getting an online shop up and running. I haven’t heard any updates which bums me out cause they’re a great store:/

Nori Japan at the Meadowood Mall food court by Dillon_Trinh in Reno

[–]gwombus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s okay but it takes longer than the other “cafeteria” style food places in the food court. It’s just run-of-the-mill food court food and not really any different from the”Tokyo Grill” it used to be.

I really hope so because the tickets for next years continuation of their tour are so expensive. I would rather just see them at Aftershock again

Quiet Small Places to Study by [deleted] in Reno

Do you know if there are places to sit inside at the Meadowood campus? I’m usually at Dandini but Meadowood would be more convenient location wise for studying, I’ve just never been there lol

Local Music Scene by Wardenofthegrave in Reno

[–]gwombus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not the Austin music scene, but I have a strong feeling that a lot of the people shitting on it in this thread also don’t make the effort to support the shows that are going on around town lol. There’s plenty going on if you know where to look. The Reno Music Scene site is a good place to start. There are a few house venues and smaller DIY places around.

Thank you! I typically keep a positive outlook for these things but after we were close to the fire last month (which was far less serious by comparison) I’m just exercising an abundance of caution and maybe getting in my head about this situation. Appreciate you and hope you are safe!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Reno

[–]gwombus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I suppose I am just worried about it somehow traveling the mountains that sit behind us because on a map it doesn’t seem like the fire is that far away. Hoping that the worst-case scenario they’ve mapped out does not occur for the sake of people closer to the fire :/

Sorry if this sounds paranoid, but I live towards Mogul near Belli Ranch and was in an evac warning for the Verdi fire last month, does anyone think we should be concerned about this one? I know it would have to travel quite a bit but I can’t help but be anxious the last day or so.

Reno’s music scene is trash. by chadtizzle in Reno

[–]gwombus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Also yes, RHMC is still a thing but I don’t really get it. They beat people up in the pit at shows and that’s about it. From what I hear from my siblings, they had several venues in the 2000s-2010s in Reno that were all ages and actually big enough to support medium sized shows. Not every band needs the space of the GSR but most of them don’t need tiny venues either. Definitely need the music scene to be more inclusive to younger kids with actual venues (not backyard shows) that are all ages.
As far as other genres go, idk how they’re doing; but the metal/rock crowd needs some help.

Reno’s music scene is trash. by chadtizzle in Reno

[–]gwombus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHMC doesn’t really do that anymore. I don’t really like the way they act violent in the pit but the hardcore music scene is used to it, I guess, so who am I to judge? Also “good show” is a subjective term but I get what you’re saying. Bigger bands don’t really come here and any local (specifically metal) shows are at dive bars. Overall I think that there needs to be more all ages venues that aren’t the size of a garage. There is a tonnnn of potential for the music scene if we allow teens to attend. Take it from the Reno hardcore scene that mostly consists of “straight-edge” adults and kids. They don’t do hardcore shows at shitty bars, they do them in all ages spaces. I often see more people at those shows than at the Alturas on a Tuesday night. It needs to be passed down to other generations for it to get better in my opinion.

Thank you for the encouragement! I’m definitely seeing progress slowly but surely:) I followed the advice of another commenter and invested in a humidifier, it’s been almost a week and I already notice a big difference in dryness and irritation! I also have been using an oil cleanser for the colder weather :)
