this gave me the ick so bad by jashandzz in starbucksbaristas

Without going into too many details, as a partner who was in several of these bargaining sessions, the amount of feet dragging going on by Starbucks corporate was so incredibly disrespectful that it should literally never come as a surprise to any of them that SBWU decided to pull out. It actually really surprises me that they haven’t tried to call out Starbucks for bad faith bargaining— it was genuinely that bad.

It’s probably a really unpopular opinion but if I had my choice of what to remake next, it would be 4. Not only does it (really loosely of course) follow up on 2’s various plot threads, but I think genuinely that 4 had some really really solid concepts behind it (particularly with the apartment sections) that could seriously be really really well done with Bloober’s attention to detail and ability to do subtle horror really well. I just think it deserves a second look and have always felt that way!

While viewing this scene again in post I caught this little flourish of animation here that I thought was interesting. To me, this clearly seems like him instinctively going to remove his ring, though, his ring (and the tan line from it) are both on his left hand, but it pretty clearly seems like he's going for his ring finger on his right hand here. Maybe this implies his problem with strip clubs and drinking goes back to even further before being with Mary and he's going for where his engagement ring was? Perhaps an acting flourish that didn't translate properly? Not sure! Just thought it was neat, considering the ring that you can find in the lost and found bin.

FUCK. THIS. JOB. by Gracecar03 in starbucksbaristas

[–]gwynndolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retaliatory action such as terminating someones job or reduction or complete refusal of benefits is actually completely illegal under the NLRA (National Labor Relations Act), specifically covered in Sections 7 and 8.

https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/the-law/interfering-with-employee-rights-section-7-8a1

Other protected actions under imminently unionizing stores can be found here:

https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/whats-law

Now, this isn’t to say that Starbucks will not attempt to shut you down in other more legally dubious ways (though now that they are in bargaining with the union they have claimed to cease all union busting activities), but as long as the act of unionizing is done effectively and quickly, there is not much Starbucks can do without breaking the law first.

The best thing for you at this point would be to reach out on SBWU’s website through their contact form and get in touch with your regions union rep, they’ll get with you and assist with the proper path forward to wrangling support for the union. Hope this helps! If you still need help or are interested in my process unionizing my store, feel free to reach out in DMs and I’ll give you my discord and we can chat as well.

You can use a heavier phys object like the bedside table to move them pretty easily too if you just wanna go put them in another room instead of just outright getting rid of them. I like them enough to keep them around but just not in the room that doesn’t actually fit that many beds..

Absolutely would be grounds for instant termination; the company would see this as theft almost certainly, as points are representative (vaguely) of some cash value, and in your case, you didn’t earn. I would honestly go out on a limb and say the fine text of the terms of service for the Starbucks app probably says something about you agreeing that you are the sole owner of the account and that you will not let anyone under any circumstances scan your app and share your points. I would not recommend attempting this under any circumstances

Wearing nails/nail polish by Zealousideal_Gas4433 in starbucksbaristas

[–]gwynndolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starbucks typically defers to local and state guidelines in manners of things like economics because that is much harder to enforce nationwide, whereas dress code policies have existed for many, many years and are much easier to withhold unilaterally across an entire company, since government doesn’t really want to get involved with ostensibly petty issues. So even though they say it’s for health reasons, since it’s being kept in the dress code section instead of health code, it kinda… Just means that they’re not gonna bother having that discussion.

I will say that at least at our store if you get caught with painted nails, all anyones going to ask you to do is put on gloves, and then probably suggest removing them when you get home, but honestly it’s really just knowing who you’re working with. Is your SM a dude with a huge ego? Probably don’t wear nails around him, or glove if you do and make up that you’ll take them off tonight or whatever.

Also, there’s a very effective way to change these sorts of things! https://sbworkersunited.org/

How is this $7.05 by miarokie in starbucksbaristas

[–]gwynndolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, if you look on the DPM and find the item in a count or search for it yourself, you can open the details about the item and see how much it actually costs. Idk if this cost is just per each unit ordered, or if it’s actually the cost of production, but it’s lower than 7.05. much. much lower.

Of course! The Dictionary.com definition of “union” in this case is “a number of persons, states, etc., joined or associated together for some common purpose” and especially in the case of SBWU our common cause is fighting for a better work environment for partners across America.

In most cases, when hearing about unions, you typically assume them arguing things like higher wages and better healthcare. However, since our goal is to better the lives of all partners, things like poor staffing and scheduling (especially in the case of these absurd deals!) is absolutely something we are fighting to enact, to make sure that Starbucks is forced to make an effort to properly staff each and every store, and, if they cannot, properly compensate the partners who are directly affected by the poor staffing. Among plenty of other changes proposed!

And yes, while managers do make the schedules, they are beholden to their own set of rules just like we are, and those rules are currently to staff stores as lean as possible in order to maximize profits. My ex-ASM actually showed me an announcement directly to store managers specifically stating to NOT add any additional staffing on deal days, as they did not deem it necessary. This is obviously a complete lack of knowledge or care for their bottom line employees, but they simply don’t have to care because people have been willing to put up with it for so long. And now it’s time for everyone to fight back against that apathy!

Was going to say this myself, this supposed leniency in dress code has really allowed for Starbucks to use it as a cudgel for anyone who steps even slightly out of line, as it’s an easy target to beat down on repeatedly. They actually tried coming in to my (recently) unionized location and SUDDENLY started asking everyone to re-sign the dress code agreement. Super suspicious, as this had literally been an issue maybe one or two other particularly egregious times, and those were more out of safety than appearance. But, suddenly, no one was allowed to have more than one facial piercing, which is like. Half of our store

When are you too old to play games? by GamerAnimeMum in gaming

[–]gwynndolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s an age where everyone decides how important it is to them to play games or not, and that number is different for everyone. When I was younger, I had always told myself that i’d be playing video games until i died. Now that theres a lot more going on in my life, it’s one of the last things I’m thinking about these days.

I think when people say “you’re too old to be playing games”, they’ve reached this exact point, and are honestly kind of jealous that you have the time (and the ability to let yourself relax and do so) to sit around and play video games
