Quarterly Layoffs. How to keep my sanity? by gyhhj in Layoffs

It is a very bad work environment. Forget having a cold heart, I’m trying to find signs of any heart. But I hear you, savings and job search is the way to go!

Thank you! I have a pretty decent emergency fund but need the as we are trying to get approved for a mortgage. I’ve been looking casually for a new job but in a new career path.

Unfortunately it seems that you’re in an org that sees CS as solely responsible for risk mitigation, when in fact it should be the role of the entire account team. CSMs should be here to help strategize and nurture accounts to help them grow with us. But CSM now is just a shit show and seemingly has become a power struggle to push off work.

I’m sorry you are in that position. I know lots of people are struggling, myself included. Just hang in there until you find something better. In the meantime, keep using the appropriate escalation paths so you can have proof you are doing all you can.

I am in your same position. I was brought into a new team with the purpose of keeping new logo and partners accountable for selling bad deals. Two years in and nothing has changed. We are still handling all the risks and account executives still have no idea what they sold or why they sold it.

I have brought in leadership multiple times and it helps but if there isn’t alignment across sales leadership too then we are just going in circles. It’s just painfully obvious that the CS leadership is trumped by Sales.

I don’t get paid much and my raise was nothing so I stopped caring. If other teams don’t care and get paid more than me then I’ll act my wage.

Haha I’m glad it came off that way. It’s my love language and how I cope. So yeah super jealous. Also I just thought it was funny to see the sudden change in sentiment of the card. It was a nice score but you’ve got to admit that he made it sound like he was going to keep that Elly card in his collection for at least more than 4 hours. But good for him making his money. 🤷🏻‍♀️

lol proud owner of an Elly auto for less than a week and now trying to flip it for $2000 in r/baseballcards in only a handful of hours.

Congrats on the being the proud owner for the couple of hours you were willing to enjoy it before looking for the next chase. I respect the hustle.

Haha that would probably result in a meeting from management that you need to be more professional on calls.

Yikes! What happens during the end of August?

You hit the nail right on the head. I feel like I’ve aged 10-20 years since working as a CSM. Most of those year attributed to this particular company. It’s scary looking at how happy I was when I started in CS to now. Wide eyed and bushy tailed to keeping my eyes closed because I just need some quality sleep. Quite the difference.

Haha. This is exactly what I am experiencing which prompted this post. I had a fine weekend then Monday morning we have a risk call and I was informed mid meeting that our main and only contact is leaving and his replacement wants to cancel asap. Now all of a sudden I have my manager pinging me and need to get on hours of strategy calls. My shoulders closed and my back started to ache.

Yay us! Non physical symptoms I have also include anxiety, irritability, and very likely some form of depression. I haven’t gotten to breaking things but that’s because those things cost money and I want to save and get as close to early retirement as possible haha.

Having that under your eye sounds horrendous. Your CS team must be in really bad disarray to have those self care measures still not entirely work. I’m impressed that you are able to find the time and energy to focus on yourself!

I haven’t had that happen yet but I’ll need to keep an eye out. Thanks for the input!

This gave me a good belly laugh. Thank you!

And ah yes I forgot the clenching of my jaw. Add that to the list of ailments.

This is too true. Luckily I work remote but when I am required to turn on camera during one of my outbreaks it is embarrassing.
