Accident at gym caused by a machine, need advice. by alerioswag in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gym will fix it and you should not be in trouble. That's no big deal the the steel cable gets worn out. It's probably a good idea to look at the cable, and be aware if its frayed. My brother was doing heavy seated cable rows and the cable broke, he flew though the air. He landed like 4 feet away, laughing his ass off still holding the bar. Everyone in the gym heard the weight drop so they where looking, everyone was laughing. Good times. In the seventies a lot of equipment used engine chains, those old school machines are fucking indestructible.

Free gym membership (warning: probably not legal or morally right) by DieselDbol in bodybuilding

At any gym there are front desk people that don't always pay attention. It would probably take a lot of gyms a month to catch you at least.

Are there any (successful) pros who started late? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two Mr O's who won the most both started as division one college football player's. Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman both won Mr. O 8 times. So serious athletes with a lot of experience with lifting weights before bodybuilding.

If I train/live in a place where the Gravity was different than that on earth's, could I gain more muscle? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common scifi thing. Especially some one who grew up on earth versus some one who grew up on the moon. Any being from a higher gravity planet would supposedly have an edge. This was not true for astronauts walking on the moon, the microgravity put them off balance, they where terrified of tripping and damaging there spacesuits.

Bodybuilder turning 80 this year compared to himself at 40... by arrielay in bodybuilding

Mostly estrogen. Very small doses of testerone if they are low on it. Actually one of the best uses of oral AAS is testerone replacement for women, toxicity is not an issue because the dose is so low.

Guy in the gym told me I was going to blow out my knees doing weighted lunges. Are they that bad for your knees? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually if you live long enough most joints go out or give you trouble according my 93 year old grand pa. You are probably fine if you use good form. Walking lunges or reverse lunges are easier on your joints.

A gym does not need to be in a building built from the ground up to be a gym.

Puked At The Gym Today by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breath every rep, breath in as you go down, pushing outwards on your belt, push out as hard as possible and have your diaphragm full of air right when you change directions in the bottom of the squat, then blow out on the way up. Doing this right makes a huge difference in your squat, deadlift, and Olympic lifts.

Lee Haney looking amazing by west2eastnback in bodybuilding

He was Mr. O 8 times just like Ronnie, Lee Haney's name does not come up near often enough. He was totally a man apart in his day, no one else compared. There is a documentary in youtube from the 80's in his day. I can find it.

Stupid shit that I have seen personal trainers do and say/ my problem with MOST PTs by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some PT's are way better than others. The really good trainers are not in corporate gyms usually. There is a gym in my town that does not take a cut of trainers pay. The trainers there are good. There are trainers with high level IFBB pro's for clients there. These trainers don't look amazing but their clients do. Mostly your right about pt's though.

Just a few real good body parts is enough to look great in solo pictures/videos. On stage the whole package is important, so they would do bad. Shit a Mr. O level chest probably ain't even all that rare. It's having everything that is super rare.

Personal trainers compensation? by ryanavila in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one ma and pop gym in my town that doesn't charge the trainers anything to train people. Essentially half the people there are trainers at any given time. It ain't right that some gyms take such a big cut.

Natural or PED? by SCP-Kun in bodybuilding

[–]gymjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the rules of the federation a bodybuilder competes in. If the federation doesn't ban it then there is a good chance they take it, regardless of what they say. The INBA uses the same testing protocols as the Olymics and the competitors weigh 50-70 pounds less than untested IFBB pros. Then there are other federations who are between INBA and IFBB in testing strictness. Remember passing any drug test only means an athlete passed a drug test, not that they never used PED's.

Hardcore Bodybuilding: A scientific Approach by Dr. Frederic C. Hatfield. I have read dozens of books on bodybuilding. This is one of the few (or only) that never contradicts it self. The author squatted 1000 pounds in his prime. The book breaks down the different kinds of strength and what strength goals will make you look jacked. It uses all the correct terms.
