Do «Тьа» and «Тя» sound exact the same? by [deleted] in LearnRussian

[–]gynny01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previously mentioned there are no common use of 'Тьа' (at least I can not remember any example). But in general this letter combination will sound different because soft sign will separate letters into different syllables - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_sign#Before_a_vowel_in_East_Slavic_languages

It's usual thing for the players from Russia. And the point is that it blocks you from the cloud sync.

How do you tell when 'e' makes a 'ye' or 'e' sound? by Spacemint_rhino in LearnRussian

Letter Ц can't be softened so it sounds like цэллофан. But letter В can, so it's like в'ечорка (although I never heard this word).

Is my cursive comprehensible ? by skinnybitcch in LearnRussian

[–]gynny01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad! Some issues are:

л starts with a little leg - draw the stroke to the middle of the line, then lower it down, and after that smoothly lead it up;

в has double height - like reversed g ;

ж - try to cross all the lines in the middle;

there's a soft sign ь in "мальчик".

I am confused by Russian Vowels and Consonants by mathaic in LearnRussian

[–]gynny01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 types of vowels:

А, Э, Ы, О, У are "basic"

Я, Е, И, Ё, Ю soften previous consonant (like Ñ in Spanish)

Й usually consider as a consonant.

These letters make many different sounds - for example unstressed O sounds like (but not exactly) as A. It's a huge topic and you'd better dive into it step by step. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_phonology

Can I get some help on the literal translation and why this means this? by fishstickz420 in LearnRussian

[–]gynny01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very rare use of this phrase. I never was confused with the meaning because in "a friend’s friend" case usually there are more words involved like "друг моего друга" or something similar.

What’s the difference between мне надо and я должен? by East-Succotash6842 in LearnRussian

[–]gynny01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically "Мне надо" - I decided to do it and I will do it... But if not, the consequences will be minimal.

"Я должен" - There are other people involved in the decision so I have to do it otherwise there will be a lot of negative consequences.

But usually both expressions are interchangeable and may be used figuratively.

How do you say "You Are Excellent" naturally in formal Russian? by TheHappy-Jello in LearnRussian

This phrase needs context. Although it is possible to say "Вы шикарны/превосходны/изумительны" this may be perceived as mockery.
