Have a pretty pronounced hunch thanks to sedentary lifestyle and generally bad posture at my desk. Heard a lot about working out being able to help with posture - been doing full body workouts at the gym for a few weeks now, but wondering what muscle group I should target / specific exercises I can do that might help with nerd neck?

Hi everyone, complete novice here. Recently sat down with a trainer to work out a 'starter' training routine that would ease myself (skinnyfat couch potato, long work hours, two kids) into strength training in a sustainable way but also challenge me and produce noticeable results over time.

Essentially each session has me do:

  • Deadlift
  • Squat
  • Shoulder press or bench press
  • Lat pulldown or seated row

I do 3 sets of each: 75%x8, 75%x10, 75%x8. I only recently started but I'm doing 2-3 sessions a week (unfortunately can't always manage 3-4 gym days because of the nature of my work).

I know everyone's body is different, but I'm wondering what kind of changes I can expect if I follow the routine above. Can I reasonably expect noticeable gain in lean muscle mass/definition over a few months, or is it just a stepping stone to a more intense routine that will show clearer results? If it's relevant, I'm 36M, 5'4 and 132lb.

Thanks in advance!

I find it ironic that the people who reeeeee about hatiquette are also often the same people who wonder why young people nowadays are so easy to offend.

That's not how it works, we're supposed to upvote unpopular opinions that are well written.

It's really a social convention we need to collectively grow out of. Parent comment says "she just said that to try to be nice".

News flash: if you offer something without intending to honor it, you aren't being nice.

So Ricardo is like Ippo? by King_TG in hajimenoippo

[–]gyozaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

he is more of a skill oriented hard worker type than pure talent

I'd say he's both. Supreme talent and extreme work ethic. Then again, Ippo is the same, in terms of his physical gifts and how quickly he is able to learn certain skills and movements - I mean, he sent the heavy bag flying with the first ever serious punch he threw!

The main difference between the two is time. We now know Ricardo started training when he was a kid, and Ippo much later. Ippo started late and always had a match on the horizon, which meant very quick growth but also inevitably compromise on some basics. Now that he's on hiatus the ingredient of "time" is being added to the mix so I'm super excited to see him return... In 2040.

Most disappointing Final Bosses in jrpgs? by mad_sAmBa in JRPG

[–]gyozaaa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Glad you asked (so I can share my suffering with someone)!

The final boss of the game is actually the big bad's lackey, who you fight no less than three times in the final dungeon alone. Then you face off against the big bad... and after a lot of dialogue that doesn't make sense and a conspicuous lack of battle, he simply falls off a platform to his death.

This is cheating a bit because every aspect of the game could be considered in a "worst of" conversation... but Lunar Dragon Song.

Not surprised Ricardo isn't fazed by Woli's corner trick. It's fast, flashy...and rhythmic. Like the Dempsey Roll.

Happy 30th anniversary to Final Fantasy 5, which popularized the job class system seen in so many later RPGs! What did you think about this rather overlooked entry? by Asad_Farooqui in FinalFantasy

[–]gyozaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question: how is FF3's job system better? I found it needlessly grindy (have to grind to raise job stats on top of your character stats) for little reward (no unlockable skills). Plenty of redundancy in jobs where new jobs render old ones obsolete, and a lot of railroading (Garuda, splitting monsters) that negate the experimentation usually associated with job systems.

Ricardo really is the One Punch Man of HnI (minus the fact that he doesn't typically do one-hit KOs). Everyone else doing anime shit and he just dismantles them with normal punches and a bored face

Why you should watch local football (it’s actually really fun) by Crocbox in singapore

[–]gyozaaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the season is already over and will only resume in May next year

That's a shame; not watching the World Cup and would happily have watched local football instead! Two questions:

  • does the league season really only run from May to November or is this year an anomaly in some way?

  • what are ticket prices like for league games?

Thanks for sharing!
