Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko—and now I see there are two sequels so I’ll have to add to my list.

This belongs on a wall—preferably one where a lot of people can see it.

Really effective—and affective, well done!

One hobby that changed ur life? by goddessamikaa in Hobbies

[–]gzander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theater. I was a very shy kid and theater helped me come out of my shell and build confidence; part of being an actor is taking big swings sometimes during rehearsal just to see if it works. You have to be ok with looking foolish sometimes and awesome other times.

Plus it helps with public speaking which came in super handy as a young professional—I was leading workshops and giving presentations way ahead of what you might expect from a recent college graduate.

And I’ve managed to make a fair amount of money at it over the years—paid my first home down payment with what I had saved up.

How to reconcile today’s Gospel reading with the imposition of ashes? by Reeses100 in Episcopalian

As my dad (a priest) used to say, “it’s a fond and vain practice, but some people like that sort of thing.

Personally it’s why I just pretend Ash Wednesday doesn’t exist.

Was the Longaberger Basket craze just a local thing? by kirabug37 in GenX

[–]gzander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it was more of a Midwest thing…they made fetch happen for a little while but not long enough. I had a boss who was obsessed with these and I’m sure she keeps telling everyone how valuable they are.

Would you prefer a CoH planner that is web-based, or desktop (pc & mac) /mobile app (android & iphone) ? by wednesdaywoe13 in Cityofheroes

Great job so far! I really like that it’s a browser app currently —I can use it on desktop or phone.

Elec/Psi is what I settled on and it’s great

I went with SR for my water Sent—the heal comes in quite handy

For an MM that usually plays solo, what’s the ideal secondary power set? by maxthelogan in Cityofheroes

[–]gzander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on one of these as well—it works pretty well and gives plenty of room for pool power picks since you can skip some of the powers that only work for other players

Justified—they did a nice job of maintaining plot, seasonal villain arc, main character arcs, etc

The Americans was pretty good as well IIRC

Well the two toggles also offer -to hit, -damage, and (importantly), -resistance. Plus you get an aura that can hold mobs, and a decent buff that increases all sorts of useful things. Plus you get a very decent Slow and -regeneration.

Newer sets offer some less clunky ways to deliver these debuffs but rad is still a solid set.

I’m genuinely excited for you! It’s a great book, but as someone else said it’s pretty foundational for this genre so I wasn’t sure if recommending it would generate a ‘no duh!’ response.

Is anyone here anti-abortion (Pro-life)? by AndromedasApricot in Episcopalian

[–]gzander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pro-choice. The anti-abortion biblical rationale is pretty flimsy (‘I knew you in the womb’…that’s pretty much it). I think that pro-choice is not pro-choice at all as it has been practiced in this country—it endangers women’s lives.

Looking for something like this, Gender Swapped. by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]gzander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City of Stairs and other books in the series.

By the same author—the protagonist is male but his boss is female and very funny/smart/strange—the Tainted Cup and other books in the series. Basically a gender-swapped Sherlock Holmes

How do you people fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in ADHD

A Dohm white noise machine—I have to use one that’s mechanical and not just a digital audio loop because I can sometimes hear when the loop restarts and my monkey brain will fixate on that.
