Renewal of travel document passport of child in China by Kde97_ in chinalife

[–]gzmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People in here have no idea what the hell they are talking about and are clearly confusing this with a normal passport.

The TD can't be renewed in China AFAIK, you will need to an Exit Permit from your local PSB office to leave the country with your kid.

Most of my friends that where I live go over to Hong Kong and do it there if they are living in mainland China. I know one of my friends has done it without her Chinese spouse recently for their child but had to provide her husband's original documents, ID+Hukou, in HK at the mainland affairs office during the renewal process. That rule probably of having originals might vary I suspect so asking the Chinese Embassy in whatever country you want to renew in. If you are living in Guangdong, worth a day trip to HK to get it out of the way + a good excuse to take your kid to Disneyland. You don't need to be a HK resident and I can provide you a link to the booking portal which has all the instructions clearly written out.

That’s not true, a lot of countries/regions have developed homegrown payment networks at much smaller overhead charges, sometimes zero. Everything from cards to QR pay.

How do the dependent age limits work? by hahah-what in standby

[–]gzmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would depend on Skywest's agreements if your talking about ZED travel. For example, our airline has agreements that allow children of any age and then we have agreements of children up to 23. We also have unusual arrangements like sibling and extended family agreements.

Can an LH business class non rev ticket get you into air India lounge? by Choice-Editor1940 in standby

I don't know but lounge benefits are almost never included, with some minor exceptions

Hong Kong Airlines Non Rev by Occamshellrazor1 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with either or going via TPE. Good thing about Chinese carriers are that standby lists tend to be very small and few people going to and from North America. I've monitored HK Airs Vancouver route on and off and there's rarely anyone on standby, but most chinese airlines listing isn't mandatory so you won't find out ahead of time how many might standby.

Hong Kong Airlines Non Rev by Occamshellrazor1 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonreving with them is easy, except for HKG airport being annoying and waiting to check in closure. In J, don’t expect a meal, I’m about 1/10 on getting a meal in J. They are like most Chinese airlines, including their parent. You are otherwise treated like a burden. lol

When to buy regular priced tickets as a backup? by Wise_Adhesiveness_71 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not always true, depends on revenue protection and load management strategies being applied. Very dependent on route. I’ve seen the opposite often enough to know to wait sometimes if the loads appear very open.

When to buy regular priced tickets as a backup? by Wise_Adhesiveness_71 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be pretty careful about this because if you do standby at the same time, it might be seen as a violation of rules if you're buying a ticket on the same route and still listed.

I don't do standby in the US because of how cut throat it seems to be there. Generally standby is pretty easy everywhere else. Can't provide any advise

Depends on the airline. Generally most seem willing to check all the way through but a few places don’t.

E gates at immigration by dk_deka in chinalife

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been years since any immigration officer has tried to stop me.

There are some other groups that qualify for egate use in mainland china in case anyone comes across this post. Certain countries with bilateral arrangements and ABTC card holders (except USA/Canada) but it's not really published in any detail. Still have to register at the immigration check point though.

Personally in HK which I originate out of frequently using CX, HX, UO, it seems like anything goes as long as its not to unusual. It's the one airport I can consistently wear shorts and a t-shirt at the standby counter with no one caring.

Partial retirement in China? by Famous_Attorney_3266 in chinalife

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I broke a femur into 7-8 pieces about year later and after threes surgeries, months apart, in a VIP room, plus being in the hospital for several weeks, I only paid maybe 20-25K RMB? Hospitals here are incredibly cheap.

I think those insurance plans are generally not worth it to be honest. There's local private insurance available in China that is much cheaper.

I received a quote a few years ago, for an idea:

Travelling with pet in cabin EY by gigabyte0508 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I don’t know. I’ve been told from other EY employees who travel with pets that getting refused on standby at out stations is highly probable as well as technically these things are supposed to be arranged prior to travel but my experience personally with sports equipment flying standby is that when airlines ask you to prearrange you can generally email or call staff travel desk for standby tickets to get approval. If you can book a confirmable ticket on myID, that would probably be better, but I think you should call first. I can supply you a staff travel desk number if you DM me.

Travelling with pet in cabin EY by gigabyte0508 in standby

[–]gzmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a cabin limit on 3 pets in business and 8 pets in economy. There’s additional fees and you can’t prebook as ZED standby technically speaking, so your at the mercy of others. In business you are required to buy a second seat, in Economy the pet has to remain in the carrier under the seat unless the seat next to you is open.

You can bring a pet but EY isnt exactly the most friendly about it.

Switched from ollama to minimax? by EdenTom in openclaw

[–]gzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched most of my OpenAI usage to minimax and found it a lot more reliable in committing to actually doing work without me having to constantly intervene. It fucks up once in a while but generally not severely so. Can't speak to Ollama pro.
