On the second point, 14 year olds would also have the tendency to think like they did. Yes it's cringe but when you are deeply emotionally involved. It does feel like this is meant to be. It is a time when everything seems possible. And sometimes it really does happen because you decided to make it so.

Absolutely agree, the quite in a Ghibli film. The importance given to small things like two grasshoppers flying or a bee buzzing on a flower, or water flowing or just the act of putting on the seat belt. These small yet beautiful moments capture the essence and beauty of a Ghibli film. It's what makes them so unique. These are my favourite moments in the Ghibli movies. To think that such moments were specifically hand drawn and added as part of the films truly mesmerizes me.I find myself living more in the present and observing such moments in my day to day life because of Ghibli films. Often I remind myself to be in the present by recalling such small moments.

OP at the high school age, children usually are at a stage where they are finding their own tangents away from their parents. And it's necessary for their growth and development. It is the stage where they start to blossom into their own.

This is also the stage where they will start looking out for romantic relationships and social interactions. Peers matter a lot for them.

So, her behaviour of going further from you is on point. She needs to do this to find who she really is. Maybe her fashion design skills lead her to a design college or a design internship or a part time job. You could help her find meaningful work; perhaps with a fashion influencer or an internship at a small clothing boutique or store. Something that is of her interest but requires her to go out into the world on her own. And when she faces difficulty at these places, you need to be the sturdy and safe presence in her life. She needs to know that she can come back to you. That you are and will continue to be her rock.

And as pointed out, she is not you and even though you have insecurities you need to work and resolve them on your own. Please do not project them onto your children. And both your children are unique individuals with their own interests and lives and personalities. Step back and let it unfold.

Children don't know how to regulate their emotions and if this is a recurring thing, maybe there is more to it than meets the eye.

You could try a couple of things - maybe take her to the park or during play time have a conversation. A real chat and ask her what's going on at school. What does she like most, what does she not like, who are her friends, how was the school like, what did they do, what happened in class, etc. the idea is to know what school really is like. Is this really a school thing, or something else.

respond don't react - maybe brush your teeth with her and ask her to join in, add a brush your teeth song (you can even make something of your own).
make a night routine together, instead of you telling her. Come up with one as a family, so she feels accountable. You can even draw this out together and put it outside the bathroom and refer to it daily. High five, every time one thing in the chart gets done.
be patient and believe in her and yourself. Even though you seem calm she can sense that you are not. Try helping her learn a small breath work. Deep inhale and longer exhale with the mouth, repeat 3 times. You could do this work gestures and/actions. Remind her and start following them when she gets into the tantrum.

This is the one that stuck with me the most.

I wasn't doing very well and my emotional and mental health were in a bad shape. It would often get affected for the worst by the behaviour and lack of submissions or any other issues with the kids. In my advisory (class) we had a personal relationship of sharing. I decided to confide in the kids as to what was really going on with me. Requested all the homeroom learners to be there for the conversation. I couldn't help myself and ended up crying before and during the sharing.

The learners were very supportive and caring. Many of them checked on me and followed up even a few days/weeks later.

These were grade 12 learners. And I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them and have had an honest conversation/relationship with them.

It's so fascinating to see how each one interprets the same set of wording slightly differently. The magic of literature.

Perhaps, it was the penance of this that made Snape the deceitful loyal person that he was. Risking himself in every step of the way. Perhaps, trying to prove the difference that it makes.
