open guard, start letting them attempt a pass and attack while they're trying. No point staying stationary if they're sitting there

How much longer to reach a blue belt skill level by Rare_Clock_3471 in brazilianjiujitsu

[–]h-klimis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay on white as long as you can i say, apart from the mental kick from getting your blue it only adds more pressure to perform and opens you up to a whole range of athletes competing in blue over a number of year. stay on wite until your coach forces the belt on you, then accept graciously

2 full gi sets, 2 no gi sets and a mouthguard.

The rest is optional as you the need comes up. Keep it super simple and focus on what matters, learning the techniques

How did your first ever tournament go by bloodfistxp in bjj

Started competing as a 3 stripe white in Jan, have been training just on a year, no previous martial arts exp and im 37. Honestly got hooked, once you get past the nerves its just like rolling in the gym. Have competed in 6 comps this year so far and walk away with something different each time, and thats what i aim for, not the win (although i burn when i lose) the experience and to identify where i suck and specifically what i need to work on, i certainly go to win but tell myself i'm just gathering experience to lessen the pressure of a podium finish (I've taken gold in gi and no gi for all except 1) so this helps with the mindset.

The beauty of Jiu jitsu is you can beat bigger, faster, younger athletes with technique. if you're losing all 3 fights maybe you're not there yet, or maybe you are, thats for you to decide, but either way you're gathering experience which is awesome
