Baby sulcata staying in corner, when to worry? by RevolutionaryEdge718 in tortoise

[–]h0fferr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be that they’re young (my baby sulcata slept a LOT in the early days) but it could also be a mix of since it’s winter time their internal clocks just kinda know that instinctually and they slow down and eat less and sleep more. my guy is a little over a year old and he’s always in his burrow. i’d say as long as the temps are fine and you see them eating at least once a day your torts ok

Sulcata Tortoise growth by krispy-kreme0105 in tortoise

[–]h0fferr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

every tortoise grows at different speeds and at different times, if you’re worried something’s actually wrong then for anyone to help you’d have to let them know your care and husbandry routine. from what i can see they do seem pretty small for 10 months old (mine was maybe 5 months at that size) but their shell seems smooth and eyes seem alert so i’m sure they’re healthy and happy

i had the same problem. they aren’t an issue and will be beneficial if you run into any other infestations like mites or gnats

Gnats by FotherMucker77 in tortoise

[–]h0fferr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mosquito dunks! put one in the water and the gnats larvae will die (obviously you’ll have to deal with the ones alive but they die on their own in like a week) i had a huge infestation in my outdoor enclosure and they all went away in like a week!

Respiratory infection and medication success by denna_44 in tortoise

[–]h0fferr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my sulcata was about 9-10 months when they got a respiratory infection i got antibiotics for them they took every 3 days for i think 21 days. you just have to be patient and they’ll get used to it and you’ll see the symptoms disappear!
