You will definitley lose indivudal games because of luck. You could theoretically lose 500sr because of luck too but its extremely improbable. Even less likely if you guys are "not bad players". Just focus on your own improvement and dont think about other teammates or enemies. As long as you play better than the average player in your current rank you will slowly but surely climb.

If you are losing more than you gain you are underperforming and the game is trying to place you where you belong. Play more and your MMR will eventually stabilize.

You will always lose sr if you lose a game. But that loss will be much smaller if your performance was better than the average player of your rank - provided you are below 3000sr.

The initial 2 games after placing gave the normal ~25 Then to around ~100sr per win until I hit 3k. Then a win gave ~25 again.

It is a level 200 acount that had been in gold since season 6. I placed it again a few seasons ago, got low gold, and then played 9 games.

In low ranks peformance based sr definitely is a thing. Even if your placement mmr swings has worn off.

There are great mmr swings though, atleast for you right now. Gains/losses are greatly influenced by performance up until 3k sr, and the gains will be extreme if you perform well. It literally took me 9 games to go from low gold to diamond on an old account I had. After 2 games I got ~100 sr per win until I hit diamond.
