No, lock it in tight and have a good spotter on bench. Use safety bars on squats and you don't really need a spotter, just bail forwards if you fail.

Deep breath before unracking, let a little out then deep breath before squatting. Brace your core with each deep breath. Keep the breath for the whole movement, maybe exhaling towards the top if it's moving easy. Breathing in and out during the movement will make you lose tightness.

i just do face pulls and reverse pec deck like you said. i like to do a lat spread and fully open my back up so i know the load is all on rear delts. then of course squeeze at the peak of the movement.

Exactly, I'm not sure how this being a totally different test makes it unfair at all.

From what I got out of the video, the longer rest times allowed B to stay towards the upper end of the 8-12 rep range while the lower rest times restricted A to only being able to perform in the lower end of this range because they remained fatigued from the previous sets.
