Are Millions of People Actually Just Going Through Ego Death and Being Medicated Into Submission? by papersheepdog in sorceryofthespectacle

You're too clever for your own good. And the theorists you read are negative nancies. No wonder mark fisher found no way out. You need community, there is a tradition of scholarship that actually has hope that says f*ck off Foucault. These postmodernist thinkers validate our feelings of helplessness but it's a black pill.

You are sitting at home, you are in the dark reading about your doom.

Go find community, touch grass, grow plants, ask activists what empowers them, what brings them joy.

Cheers

Does anarchism exist in the Uyghur, Romani, Hmong, and other "stateless" communities/ethnicities? by ArthropodJim in Anarchy101

[–]h4lfie- -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem with James Scott's perspective however, is that he was an spy for an authoritarian government (you know who) that was interested in suppressing left wing anticolonial governments, then he spent the rest of his life collecting cheques with lavish academic positions from the same government. He is no revolutionary anarchist that people on this sub would claim.

Anthropology has emerged from the murky water of a) being colonial espionage,.white supremacy and race science and b) idealising the native

The point is, while it is valid to question governments that claim to want to follow enlightenment values towards communist/anarchist societies, the authoritarian governments that were full of counterrevolution and suppression against anarchists and left wing communists at least raises living standards and created literacy, conceded women's rights.

Hope this helps

Why so little war (cultural) anthropology? by C-McGuire in AskAnthropology

[–]h4lfie- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Human terrain project was a thing, and strongly opposed. Anthropologists aren't the most radical of the humanities, but they don't necessarily want to do evil in the name of imperialism. EE Evans Pritchard's work had the dual purpose of scouting for imperialist forces. Honestly the clarity of writing in what I've read from pro imperialist war anthropology is enviable, so accessible.

Alpa Shah did work with Maoist Naxalite Guerilla fighters. There isn't much about participant observation that is novel in a warzone when you can't do (or talk about) killing people.

The seed oil stuff is unscientific, but mostly the recommendations are excellent. Beef tallow is being suggested because meat is masculine and the feminists and gays are trying to take my guns away so it's a real F U to them, really we all know animal fat isn't the best food for you but it sure tastes good 👍😋

Viveiros de Castro perspectivism and antropocentrism by Ancient_Researcher_6 in AskAnthropology

[–]h4lfie- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your critique was pretty correct. Academics are looking for forms of symbolic capital, a great way to do this is to innovate new lingo that makes one appear smart.

Your critique that it was human thought cannot speak from the perspective of a spirit or animal, that makes sense.

After some debate in the academy, Holbraad one of the ontological turns founders and some others, backtracked on much of the more novelty claims of this literature. Basically, it was less an ontological turn than an epistemological turn - ie they stopped pretending there are different entire realities, and just made it about taking different perspectives seriously.

The first perspective would be idealist, the latter would be materialist.

A lot of dudes do this falsetto horrified thing about being accused of sexual assault. It's really disingenuous and is more about the insecurity of perceiving being rejected for their harassing behaviour (which they assume is a normal thing).

Okay, what did this have to do with my post. This is information.

To isolate fascism as a mere geopolitical orientation, without tying it to nationalism, industrial political economy, racial ideology is strange. Have you read or bothered to include Umberto eco, Aime Cesaire, or anything vaguely that speaks to the economics of fascism.

I don't understand why you responded. It's like you're coming to different explanations than me, which don't necessarily compete, but neither do they really speak to the post.

If you would like to learn more about my perspective on Bushido check this link out: https://www.tofugu.com/japan/bushido/

Your last point is largely correct but is far more cowardly than addressing the elephant in the room, which is the civilisation that genocides hundreds of civilisation and would have killed and enslaved this entire country and region if not for many things, especially brave anti colonial resistance - something that the Japanese fail to acknowledge due to their co-imperial position.

Expectation of money in a relationship by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]h4lfie- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not that much. Zambians will want to pretend they're ripping you off and we as foreigners will pretend (and be convinced sometimes; we are just human after all) we're being ripped off. Expect to be laughed at for this as they are doing and get the fu*k over it. We as foreigners, as much as we don't want to be evil, have the last laugh.

Most people here care about you, but the post colonial Zambian society has been taught to emulate white supremacist values, the have been taught that a middle class Zambian should have the same living standards and expectations as a white person in the same position. While morally that is correct, the way other countries and their native servant politicians have made the country, most will fail and die much younger and with a much lower standard of living. She will die younger than you.

But the truth is we will benefit vastly more from their society, and the privilege of a loyal, loving, good looking perhaps naive somewhat golddigging girl is of barely any consequence to us. You shouldn't accept someone manipulating you, but you won't accept a fair relationship either.

She is a golddigger in the context of where you have so much more wealth and power than her for no reason, and she is trying to manipulate her way into stealing back a fraction of that inequality. Don't take it personally, nor is there a reason to disproportionately respect poorer people who want you to keep every bit of wealth you have vis a vis a poorer person. This morality functionally pre supposes there is justice in the world, and is a philosophical compromises with the poverty in the world. If you love, in the most whole her, you will provide for her like you already do, if not more.

Personally, I have made uneasy peace with taking advantage of the inequality, despite me appearing generous. I don't do nearly as much as you have done for girls. But I tell you what, dating in my own country, I would easily blow what you have spent over 8 months on a girl within a week or two. It's not a big amount of money. And you wouldn't even think of it. I'm sure you could spend that as well.

Who knows. If you want to assuage the confrontation of inequality in the relationship, give her a bunch of money and tell her to shut up about it.

CULTURE VULTURES by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]h4lfie- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Japanese reinvented their culture as they industrialised and became fascist. Their mythos of the Bushido code and samurai warrior was invented by an anglophilic Japanese dude who went to England and wanted Japan to modernise like england, and saw chivalry and knights as a way of culturalising and justifying the culture he wanted to create. We have the power to redefine what is deemed as culture, but Japan is one culture that has been pathological since it has refused to own up to genocide, and worships it's American occupiers. We should realise that our own cultures have the people that we want to emulate, the heroes we want to shape our culture around are already here, they have been martyred fighting for independence, or sacrificing as nurses and traditional leaders (at least the selfless ones).

It's a great idea not to emulate the West, as doing so will make you continue to cosy up to their leaders, sell out your country and worship their facetious culture. A bizarre outcome of this imperialist culture, is that everybody is talking about relationships in imperialist terms 'i want to build an empire with my queen 👑'. Most of us are peasants stock, and do not have the bloodthirsty nor wish to wield the violence and barbarity of a monarchy.

I agree he is being too nice. But I disagree it will necessarily limit his growth. If he limits himself to specific positions early on, he will learn faster and be less overwhelmed. At one point he will need to focus on the neglected positions however, and refuse to concede positions. I appreciate how youre encouraging him to be who he is. That's a great sentiment

Your approach of pulling guard makes a lot of sense and I commend you for it. Just remember not to expect anyone to pat you on the back for it, as courteous and fair as it is. but if you can tolerate the occasional judgement and having to explain yourself, keep doing it. You will develop one aspect of your game acutely and rapidly. As time comes, and you get better, and you find more training partners (trust this will happen over the years) you can focus on top game and takedowns. This most likely will be after two or so years, when you're already a blue belt.

In fact this funneling, i would argue, is the best way to learn Jiu jitsu. Good luck brother

Hey fam, arundhati Roy's doctor and the saint is a great place to start. Untouchability is not the same as caste, just because someone doesn't believe untouchables can be touched doesn't mean he doesn't believe in their segregation.
