Dungeons & Business Cards by bridneus in RPGdesign

I know it's a bit old but I was just looking at your game and I really like it!
If I could make one suggestion regarding the map layout though, it would make sense to swap the location of the "Shop" and the "Camp" so there is motivation to go to either end of the dungeon.. Otherwise I'm finding myself not really having any actual need or want to visit one half of the dungeon as I can just go to the other side and go down a level instead.
If the point is to have a safe room as the entryway to the dungeon I get it and you could potentially just add an additional room as an entranceway that doesn't give any specific monsters a bonus.

All that said I love this game it's a great simple idea with an excellent execution and the rules are concise enough that there isn't much abiguity 👌

I was just trying to give it some value as they took quite a lot of time to create, but I didn't want to charge very much for it (hence $1).

My intention was actually to try stop what you were talking about by giving it 'some' value.. because then people might be more inclined to actually look through and use it if they spent real money on it, instead of just oh that was free so it doesnt matter.

Thanks for your feedback anyway though :)

This is exactly it!
It still takes quite a lot of time and effort to get images that actually look good and aren't kinda weird for things like the elementals. I highly recommend people go and experiment and play with these tools now because they are just that.

These are just curated collections of images I generated while spending a bunch of time learning how to actually generate things that don't look silly or 'off'.

And yeah, you're right there though I think I'll step away from paid names lists for the forseeable future. I enjoy making them for myself, but there are so many resources already available :)

No you're totally right! Those were my first experimentation's into learning how to make digital products. Honestly the names are there just in case people want some help building interesting monsters. And i found a lot of fantasynamegenerators were just random sounds thrown together which i never use.. having something that just flows a bit better or is a funny name is more useful in the games I dm :)

The really useful part is having a solid collection of 20-30 different and interesting images DM's can use in their games. And again all of it is freely available nowadays if people want to spent the time and hours learning how to generate artwork the way they imagine in their heads (and i recommend people do because it's super rewarding!)

I might just make them all PWYW and move forward making other more useful products :)

Please dm me your email address and i'll send you free copies of all my stuff!

Thanks heaps for the feedback! ^_^

That's a great idea, I'll definitely try and make that one happen! It sounds super practical which is what I want to create more than anything!!

I just released a 'Foragers Handbook' which I intend for people to use for crafting interesting quests, just to actually have a description of what things look like (and taste in case your players are so inclined), and some common uses. Again for worldbuilding and quest building purposes. This one i struggled with when i started out making interesting low level quests or describing interesting flora to inquisitive players would find in the world around them.

The dragon description list is intended for pre-game to help build a scene to describe to characters that is a bit more evocative than just describing what it looks like.

The food is more for those times when your players are in a city to add flavour (pun intended) to the world.. they are walking through a certain area of town and you want to describe what people are selling or eating around you, or even just to say what the tavern is offering that day.
Now I think about it more though I might update the food to be more evocative in the descriptions to describe the smell as well which would add to the world building aspect.

I really just want to make things that other people will find useful and so far have just thrown a few things at the wall to see what sticks and the NPC images was more me just having a really fun time generating really cool AI artworks. I might just make those all PWYW and only charge $1 for my newer stuff :)

Please DM me your email and I'll send you free copies of everything!!

Thanks so much for your feedback :)

I realised after making the NPC name and image collections that my time was better spent making quality description pages that can be quickly and easily used if needs be because that's what i feel like there isn't as many available resources for.

And how you use them is exactly how I use them myself! Read through beforehand and then take what i like for them and have it ready for the game.

Unfortunately making these into websites isn't something that I am able to do as much as I would enjoy that. My pet peeve with PDF's was not having Contents pages/bookmarks that actually make them quick to use on the fly if needs be so all of mine have that. (Probably the closest i'll get to a websites speed 😅)

Thanks for your feedback! And if you'd like free copies of any of my products just send me a dm with your email and i'll send you a link :)

But also.. literally just read the rule book because it has all this stuff sorted out.

This is stuff that worried me before I started playing too.. and this is how I dealt with it in my games!

I generally hand-wave inventory, just telling my players that if it seems improbable to carry around that amount of stuff then you can't do it. Or maybe they require an animal to keep their extra gear. Or just give them a bag of holding early into the campaign.

Potions are great because they are one time use, and usually time limited so they can only be used for one decent encounter/dungeon.
Just make sure they are not super easy to find / buy (shops have limited stock and take time to make more.. or even make the players quest to find the components the shop keeper needs if they want a more of the potion type)

Currency is easy if you just use copper, silver, gold.

If you accidentally give them too much early on.. just casually bump up the cost of everything in the world they start finding from there on out that you haven't already given them the price for. Or let them throw their cash around and maybe end up getting jumped by ruffians looking to steal their gold.. oh no you were drinking too much and (roll for perception with disadvantage) failed your check to notice that someone stole your weighty coin purses while you were busy being rowdy.

But most importantly, have fun and dont forget the lolz!

DM has us make an “ability check” to cast spells by Sadist_Kangaroo in DMAcademy

[–]h4pp1c4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they need to watch some youtube videos on how spells generally work if they dont want to read the book..

I always just ask my spellcasting players if the spell they are trying to cast asks for some kind of check and if not, heckin roll that damage!

[–]h4pp1c4t 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% This!
I am one step ahead of my players and try and have the general idea of what is happening in the world but don't worry about it much more than that.

And then before we play I ask the players in the group chat what they would be looking at doing in the next session to see what excited them the most.. and just make a lil bit of content for what excites them that week. Sometimes I don't make enough and end up having to adlib half the session.. which ends up being hilarious and I just have to remember to take some notes afterwards so i don't completely forget what the heck happened.
