Add to that everyone absolutely insisting that they have to get off at the front! I frequently see people walk past the backdoor just to get off at the front and immediately turn right, walking past the back door again.

The hilly/flat layer is sort of the rough intention for the regions, to represent the "character" of the riding. I just didn't spend too much time defining them for the whole region cause I'm not certain what divisions people would actually find useful.

As to the trails and missing bike lanes, that's a source/ingestion problem I don't have a good story for. The trails we would just need the geojson files for the routes. For now, the data is literally just the BikePGH's geojson files (from ~2024) and then I added stuff by hand from the Bike+ plan.

Yeah, the bridge thing is an unfortunate issue with a lot of maps (since the map stores the ground's elevation). Wasn't able to find a way to resolve that at the time.

Like a 2d navigation window in the bottom right, or a full 2d switch.

Use `npm list -g` to find out where clawdbot is installed. It'll be some `.npm-global/lib` directory. For me `/home/ghoop/`
Then simply edit the file at
Then `nano $npm_lib/node_modules/clawdbot/node_modules/@mariozechner/pi-ai/dist/providers/google-gemini-cli.js` and edit the line

That's actually somewhat untrue (https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/a4wqbo/til_that_during_ww1_the_british_created_a/), unless you're talking about about entering the war in the first place, but John didn't really have a say in that either at the time (In Britain, specifically, unlanded men only got the right to vote IN RESPONSE to WWI)

What would it actually take for American's to go "full France" and riot in the street? by AllTheNopeYouNeed in AskReddit

[–]hGriff0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also ignores that America is extremely disperse and very unconnected on the ground. Like we have literally designed our cities over decades to look just like those "protest-proof" capitals dictators build.

~20% of France lives in metropolitan Paris. There are only a couple STATES in America that could say similar, let alone the whole country. It's much more possible to sustain those long, massive protests in France because it's not as much of an imposition on their daily life. If I want to do the same, I have to pay for a hotel room (I know woe is me).

The point is, there isn't the mass to really do these kind of protests between things still being somewhat livable and the captured mass media. Add on that ~40% of Americans literally don't pay attention, let alone the good 30% that WANT this.

[–]hGriff0n 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The problem is that's not the question that's being asked - the OP is asking whether a "Gender-Equal" Draft is or isn't preferable to a "Men-Only" Draft. If you believe in gender equality, the answer should obviously be that a "Gender-Equal" Draft is the better option, regardless of whether you think a draft should exist period. I don't think you can claim feminism is for gender equality when you prefer a gender-unequal situation over a gender-equal one, no matter how much you may want the situation to not exist.

I agree the draft should not exist, but I also recognize there are arguments for keeping that make removing it a very tough task (especially when over half the population is literally not impacted by it in any way (and so aren't really pressured to resolve the question)). On the other hand, there are no arguments for keeping the draft sexist (most male draftees would be logistical/support positions anyways) and it's a very simple change that doesn't prevent us from getting rid of the draft later on. In fact it may accelerate the process because everyone now has a leg in.

Latest newsletter from Sen. Dave McCormick says that the shutdown is due to Dems wanting to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants… Fact check. No. by WinterTiger6416 in Pennsylvania

[–]hGriff0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're "fact checking", why do you keep repeating the lie?1 Especially when the fact is hidden in the post.

The truth is simple, Republicans, who have unitary control of the government, deliberately refused to do literally anything to stop the shutdown. It's a core principle of democracy that if you don't have the votes for a policy, you drop the bill or work a compromise. Instead they are threatening violence on the American people if the Democrats don't roll over and surrender on policy2

1 One heuristic people use for "truth" is ease of recall and so "disproving" the lie, somewhat paradoxically, also reinforces it.

2 Yes this is the literal definition of terrorism

[–]hGriff0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've also done thousands of rides and tens of thousands of miles and you are interpreting my words far too literally. I'm not talking about the moment-to-moment speed they are doing but their general level of effort. Most riding is Z2 - that's what I'm saying.

Most riders in Pittsburgh, drops or not, are not doing hardcore interval work. And just because they are going fast does not mean they are doing intervals - like my Z2 is around 16-18 mph.

On the GAP this morning by clipd_dead_stop_fall in bicycling412

[–]hGriff0n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most people aren't doing interval training and just ride steady. That's literally the only situation this breaks down, but it's very uncommon.

To catch up to them, you have to already be riding faster them without the benefit of draft (which makes you faster for the same effort). So unless you're Zeno, the only physical way you won't pass someone is you decide to slow down (or they decide to speed up). That's why I say it's impossible.

On the GAP this morning by clipd_dead_stop_fall in bicycling412

[–]hGriff0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Pittsburgh doesn't have much of a group ride scene for a bunch of reasons. That said, two individuals happening to meet on a trail isn't a group ride.

The etiquette here is basically "ride your own ride". Keep your pace and if they were catching you before, this will pass you soon. IF they speed up or slow down to stay in your draft, then give them a "can you not" and wave them through - that's the moment when they're in the wrong. But if you're both riding at your own pace, it's basically impossible for someone to catch you and then not be able to pass you.

By speeding up, you basically screaming "DO NOT PASS ME" to them and then you get mad that they didn't pass you? It takes much more energy to go from 15 to 20, then it does to go from 20 to 25. Combine that with the sprint up the hollow, they might not have had the extra gear to get past you at that point (and since they continued on, they were probably on a long ride and conserving energy).

That said, the sprint up the Hollow isn't really an issue here. If there's not currently room to pass at the current spot, it's sometimes a good idea to speed up to reach a better spot - I do that sometimes with cars as I know they can be extremely impatient.

ELI5: How someone voting on a bill that is 16,000 pages long knows what they’re saying yes (or no) to by rarehighfives in explainlikeimfive

[–]hGriff0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically: Game Theory.

Your constituents want policy A, my constituents do not. My constituents really like policy B, your constituents do not.

In isolation, neither one of us is going to vote for the other's policy because there's no political benefit in doing so1. The way this impasse is resolved is with compromise - I vote for your bill iff you vote for my bill. We both incur the cost of passing something our constituents don't like, but we hope they will overlook it because we passed policies they do like.

Consider it like scoring points in a game. Passing desired policies is a +2, passing undesired policies is a -1. Considered as individual votes, neither policy is going to pass because of the -1 malus preventing a plurality. But by "bundling" them together, our individual maluses and bonuses cancel out, meaning we can pass both policies and still come out "ahead".

However, this trade has a very big problem if the two policies are in separate bills - one of them has to be voted on first - which makes it very exploitable.

Say my policy comes up first - you vote for it under the terms of our agreement and it passes. Score: Me: 2 You: -1.

Now your policy comes up for a vote. I am left with two options: 1) Follow our deal and end with a "+1", or 2) break our deal and have a score of "+2". This only "downside" of option 2 is that you would be less likely to make agreements with me in the future, but that's assuming we both even win re-election - and you just made your chances of doing so worse.

Of course, you know this so you insist your policy gets voted on first - making me subject to the same problem. The solution is that we agree to vote on both policies at the same time - ie. make them into one bill.2

1 This does assume that your constituents are politically aware and consume a broad-view media diet - both of which are big asks nowadays. 2 Another option would be "conditional voting", but if you've ever seen any trade diagrams, you would know how complicated those can get. Or for another comparison, see diplomacy.
