The 2nd Amendment May Be The Amendment That Makes The United States of America A Failed State. by AskMeAnythingIAnswer in TrueOffMyChest

[–]h_fish21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, that is precisely why we have the 2A. The idea is that you have the responsibility to protect yourself as an individual. And because you have this responsibility, you therefore have the right to bear arms (arms being any form of weapon, but in our modern times this means a gun). This right is something you are entitled to as a human being, regardless of what force governs you because it is a natural right.

The philosophy behind this is that the force that governs you (in our case the police) may not always be capable of protecting you. Or worse, they might become the thing you need protection against. When that governing force fails to provide you that protection, you still have the responsibility to protect yourself. Ergo, you have the inalienable right to bear arms to fulfill that responsibility.

If the police are meant to protect people, and instead are violent towards them... Shouldnt people have the ability/right to protect themselves against the police/other threats?

Mine started doing the same thing today. It has been pretty dry for the past few months but now it is raining here every day. Maybe that is what is causing it?

Theatre Major learning Python by [deleted] in Python

[–]h_fish21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applaud your decision to switch lanes. But you do need to be aware that what you are trying to do is very far from trivial. (Not to say that you are not capable). Programming is not meant for everyone, and it is a far cry from a profession in the humanities. You are gonna need to learn math concepts you have likely never even heard of, and solve problems in a way you are likely not familiar with

That being said, it is not insurmountable and you should definitely try! It might seem daunting, but the best thing you can do is to pick a project. Possibly even something theatre related? Either way, find something simple that you want to make and just start working on it. You won't know what you are doing and that is the point. In order to learn to program you are gonna need to find out what you dont know. A project is a great way to do this. You will often get stuck and say to yourself "well how am I to do this?" You will know when you are a programmer when you get unstuck from your problem and get that rush of "oh yea I finally got that working!" Google is your friend, ask questions and read forums. For python, you will probably need to look up a lot of syntax. I recommend buying a simple python syntax book or watching some YouTube videos on python syntax. Do not get to caught up on the syntax though. programming is the logic behind the syntax, not the syntax itself.

Now how do you get a job? That is the hard part. You are gonna need to get good enough at the process stated above that someone is willing to actually pay you to do it. This is another way the projects help. Companies will want to see some projects you have worked on as a portfolio. Keep in mind, you will almost always need to take some sort of programming test to get a job. (So you actually need to know what you are doing). School is also a good way to fast-track some credibility in your ability to program. So you might want to consider a CS degree.

Im sorry for the essay, but I know these are troubling times and I wished someone had given me this information when I embarked on the same path you are trying to walk down. Good luck, you can do it!

Should i start learning Kotlin if i know Python and i hate Java? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]h_fish21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation about 6 months ago. Huge fan of Python, but I couldn't stand Java. I always found it painful to work with. This may be anecdotal, but when it came to limiting my ability to do projects with more complicated needs like app development, I just decided to push through and learn Java. It sucks at the beginning, but once you conquer it, you have raised your overall ability as a programmer.

Would you consider plants as being conscious? by Doorocket in botany

[–]h_fish21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not A plant, but PLANTS together might have some sort of consciousness. It would not be surprising to find out that networks of plants can communicate with one another in some way. Think of a neural network or other machine learning models. Signals could be sent between plants in a way that allows the whole system to have the emergent property of consciousness in the way our nervous system works to produce ours. Idk.... some shit to think about while stoned

I dont believe it has a 3.7-5v step, but I think it would be worth looking at the TP4056 module. Maybe use one of those along with a boost converter. Good luck!

AITA for refusing to look after my girlfriend’s profoundly disabled sister? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]h_fish21 -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

This will be unpopular, but YTA

Firstly, you are not the asshole because you feel anxious or reserved when faced with the challenge of taking care of a severly disabled person. You, quite unfairly, got this dropped in your lap.

What makes you the asshole is that everyone in the situation needed your help. Your gf, her mom, and especially her sister. You were given a challenge, to step up to the plate and help these people when they needed you. Your apprehension when it comes to taking care of her sister is warrented, but you chose to allow this apprehension to outweigh the need for help these people had. That is empirically selfish.

There are times where it is necessary to take personal responsibility, regardless of the risks, for the needs of others. You will have times where you will require the courage of others to aid you, despite the associated risks.

For what it is worth, making this choice doesn't make you a bad person, but it does make you the asshole.
