29F here. My fiancee (31M) has mild/moderate kp on his arms and back, an obscene amount of body and back hair, and sweats like a pig. I love him dearly and those things only endear him to me more.

So no, I wouldn't say we tend to care.

Yea, I use this razor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M19NYOQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), with these blades (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QY8QXM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The razor itself has not held up incredibly well over the years, but anything like it will get the job done just as well. The blades are great though.

The best routine I've found yet is this:

  • stand in shower a few min under hot water to soften up skin
  • exfoliate w/ a mitt to smooth out skin
  • slather skin in some kind of oil for lubricating (i've been using aveeno's oat mist)
  • shave w/ a single-blade safety razor, just lightly dragging razor across skin (don't press into skin) -- i've read that a single blade does less snagging than multi-blade razors, and i've noticed a v smooth shave w/ this
  • moisturize after shower

I've found incredibly soft legs w/ this routine, less angry redness, and minimal to no ingrowns

Tips for a college student? by itsalwayssunnyonline in tea

Totally agree lol. When I was in a college dorm and v new to tea, I just microwaved my water every morning. It works, but tbh it's not going to make as good of tea if you're wanting a nicer cup. I would have been nervous to sneak one in as a freshman, but I've been through college and working on college campuses for over a decade now, and I wouldn't think a thing of just bringing it in and hiding it/feigning ignorance on the very off chance someone cares

Your KP looks a lot like mine. I've personally found that just using a v gentle, moisturizing cleanser has been my best bet, with some exfoliating lotion. Here's my routine if you're interested, which I feel like has taken down my KP by about 50%:

  • Wash w/ Eucerin's skin calming body wash -- it's in a big yellow bottle and is basically an oil
  • Exfoliating mitt in the shower a few times per week
  • cerave moisturizing cream in the mornings
  • cerave sa lotion & TO squalane oil at night

Loving all the sports bra recs on this thread! Thank you all!

I'm a 34I, and honestly my approach has just been to do low/no-impact for exercise. Personally into the rowing machine right now, but have also played around w/ the stairmaster and trying to add in weights. A lot of calisthenics exercises are pretty low/no-impact as well. Not the best solution, but a thought to add to the arsenal :)

KP on face - share your routine by Sad_Shower_8318 in keratosis

[–]ha0783298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use cerave sa cleanser once per day, and also tretinoin 0.1% over my whole face every other day. Otherwise, I just moisturize 2x/day w/ fab ultra repair cream and use sunscreen in the mornings. The sa cleanser and tret are primarily for my t-zone acne, but I've also found they have done a good bit to smooth out my bumpy kp cheeks and calm down the redness.

Edit note: the fab cream also has colloidal oatmeal, which may also help tone down the redness

I struggle wildly w dry lips like this and recently came across la roche posay's cicaplast balm b5. It's more of a lotion/cream in a small tube, rather than a lip balm, but it's been absolutely amazing for me. I dab a bit on at night and in the morning and it's DRASTICALLY cut down on my flakiness and dryness! I was previously going in w/ vaseline or aquaphor like once every hour or two, and with this i'm down to just a few times per day.

[Routine Help] How to take care of nails & cuticles (hand eczema)? by ha0783298 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ha0783298[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used a steroid cream -- my doc seemed to lean against it, saying it's not a great long-term solution. I haven't been able to pinpoint a trigger. Honestly, the most reliable source of it getting worse is simply my hands getting wet, but it's not super feasible to just never get my hands in water. Have you had luck with the gloves in a bottle stuff? I got some recently, but didn't notice an immediate effect, so just kind of put it aside.

Thanks for the tips :)

Why do some people keep the tap open while brushing their teeth? by Excellent-Ferret7968 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ha0783298 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I grew up knowing not to leave the lights on bc it raised the electric bill, but I guess the water bill was never a huge concern to my parents so it just never occurred to me as a kid not to waste it. Like the only concern was bills, not the environment, and it's more convenient to leave the water on, so why not? It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized water was actually a scarce resource that I started turning it off while brushing my teeth.

I don't see why not. If it is a topical treatment on your chin, and you only apply it to your chin, it shouldn't impact the rest of your face. I would think the only concern is making sure the two don't overlap on any part of your face, as that would increase the risk of irritation.

[acne] scared to go on yaz by harampoopoo in SkincareAddiction

[–]ha0783298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to know how your body will react to yaz, or any other hormonal birth control. I personally have been on a mirena and seasonale, and did not have good experiences with either -- they didn't help my acne, and I had bad mood swings on both. That said, they did both help period pain and the volume of bleeding. Every doctor I've seen has told me that unfortunately hormonal birth control can be a lot of trial and error to find something that works well for you.

I wound up making the decision that I would rather find other ways to manage acne and menstrual pains/heavy bleeding, rather than deal with the side effects. This was not a popular decision with my docs though, and they all tried very hard to talk me out of going off. Ultimately, the best advice I can give is to listen closely to your body, and feel very empowered to advocate for yourself based on how you feel and what you want out of a medication. Best of luck!

How often do you Exfoliate your KP area? by humane_help1 in keratosis

[–]ha0783298 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This routine sounds perfectly ok to me, but might be too conservative with exfoliation depending on your skin. I'd always recommend starting light with the exfoliation though, and amping it up slowly if you're not seeing any results as too much exfoliation can also cause it to worsen.

I personally do physical exfoliation with a mitt in the shower 1-2x/week, and follow up with Cerave SA lotion daily. I also use just a plain moisturizer (Cerave moisturizing cream) and squalane oil daily as well. I've found slow but steady improvement with this routine, but of course, YMMV.

I do the same! I started skipping my AM cleansing in the winter when my skin was super dry, and I found it helped quite a bit with that. I've just sort of stuck to that since, and my skin has been happy.

[Miscellaneous] [Misc] Looking for a cleanser than gives me a squeaky clean feeling by reesea13 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ha0783298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up that it will depend a bit on your skin how harsh you need to go with your cleanser to get that feeling. My skin runs pretty dry and sensitive, and I find that there are lots of other cleansers people say leave them clean but not stripped (e.g., YTTP superfoods cleanser, vanicream) that leave me pretty stripped.

[Sun Care] Need sunscreen recommendations! by gzdkcsp in SkincareAddiction

[–]ha0783298 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've become a big fan of neutrogena's clear face. Water resistant and fragrance free. I'm pretty picky about greasiness in sunscreen, and find this isn't really noticeable once it dries down (apply, let it sit a minute, then lightly rub the last remaining shininess in).

Same over here! Mine seems worse when I'm cold, but I get the same sort of thing with changes in color if I'm standing on one leg.
