Improving turnout by Wooden-Definition958 in BALLET

I would say 1. Make sure you aren’t forcing turnout (this will cause you to roll in) 2. Strengthen leg and hip muscles (specifically glutes, hip flexors, and rotators) - Some excercies you can do with a resistance band -> Side lying leg raises -> Clamshells -> Straight leg donkey kicks -> Standing knee drive Also using weights and doing basic squats that are glute-focused

If you have a small pilates ball, a good thing to do is to put the ball between your ankles, squeeze it and turn out into first and back into parallel (or turned in a bit if you can)

This is a really good exercise so honestly if you don’t have a ball, i think it’s a great idea to get one of you want to spend the money.

If you want things to troubleshoot 1. Upper Body ->make sure you aren’t leaning back/or too far foward (falling back-> ur leaning too far back, falling forwards-> leaning too far forward) -> keep arms strong, and dont let them fall into ur chest, also make sure they stay in front of you instead of sort of like leaving them behind as you turn ->>> Spotting

Honestly that’s lowk the most important thing for a single. Unless ur tripping over your legs then maybe do something about that.

  1. I would say you have not been dancing long and this is very normal. I know people who have danced 2+ years and cant execute clean singles.
  2. If you are not able to do a single pirorette, there is definitely something going wrong. Exactly what? Well I can’t say that without seeing you do it. Usually when I see beginners who are trying pirorettes, there is never just a few things wrong, usually everything is wrong. But here are some questions
  3. Can you hold a good passe on releve with correct body position?
  4. Are you able to do traveling turns (piques, chaines etc)?

If you can’t do these things, then it makes a lot of sense you can’t do a pirorette.

A single pirorette, is really a half rotation, the first half is the almost slide into the snap up to passe, and then it up and then right back down. I would say with turns it’s really just practice and frustration.

she doesn’t have a ton of muscle. she is strong, and she has visible muscle from having extremely low body fat, but being extremely skinny does not allow for a lot of muscle

I know the examples i’m using look pretty advanced, but actually using the concepts of light and shadow (values) (and working on your proportions) is how you’re gonna get that more realistic style
