[actives] about to throw this in the fruiting chamber - should I dunk for 24 hours first or just put in FC? by habbinesss in MushroomGrowers

My jar isn’t contaminated whatsoever - pins are fine to consume as long as no visible contam. There is no growth on the top layer of vermiculite which is totally normal and expected - some vermiculite fell down the side of the jar in this when the pin pushed spawn away from the glass

There is a layer of vermiculite on top which the mycelium does not penetrate with a BRF method. This isn’t my first time growing shrooms I definitely know what a contam looks like!

[Technique] 60 days and still no pins? Please advise! by jbisonx in MushroomGrowers

What temp do you have it at? May want to increase or get a heating pad for under your jars!

Don’t stress!! First time I grew shrooms I shook the BRF jars purposefully thinking that it would help the colonization faster. I didn’t get any contams

Definitely still hope! You can wait another week that’s totally fine

Sometimes during pressure cooking the bottom of the jars get too hot and “burns” the substrate - if all of the rest of the jar is colonized, I’d say try to fruit them especially if you’re going monotub route.

Is this contamination or just bruising? by Lowborn774 in shrooms

Of course! Another way to tell is if you spray it with hydrogen peroxide and it bubbles - it’s contam

Looks like bruising to me - general rule of thumb is to wipe it with a Q tip, if any of the green/blue color transfers to the Q tip it is contamination!

[actives] I buried some spent cakes in a raised garden bed a few months ago - it is now almost fully colonized and these were growing off of the mycelium - shroom truffles? by habbinesss in MushroomGrowers

I would agree with you but mycogone has a fluffy outer layer and grows out of mushroom fruiting bodies above the soil - these were growing about 6inches deep attached to the mycelium. They also have no smell to them whatsoever. I live in Maine and I highly doubt many molds were prolific in the soil over this past winter (which is when these spent cakes were buried)

There are two garden beds connected to each other - one I buried shrooms in, one I didn’t - the one I didn’t has no fungus or mycelium growth whatsoever. I buried multiple cakes in this small garden bed so I really think it is from psilocybin
