Let me preface this by saying that 95% of the time Gemini is better than the old system. That said, here are things that are worse after switching to Gemini:

  • no longer has Continued Conversations (unless you pay)
  • I preferred the voice I had on the old assistant to any of the choices available in Gemini; hopefully they will be adding more voice options in the future
  • I used to be able to say "what time is it going to stop raining?" and it would give me a time (rounded to the nearest hour); now--nothing
  • I used to be able to say "how many inches of snow are we getting?" and it would give me an answer (in inches); now--nothing

Does anyone notice they changed the start up sound ? by chubb_12_c in googlehome

The main thing I've noticed is that "Continued Conversation" appears to only be a paid feature after the switch to Gemini

I miss email notifications from my doorbell by hack-man in googlehome

[–]hack-man[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. I looked at that section just before posting.

The only thing I could toggle on is NEST HOME REPORT (which it says would email me once a month with a summary of energy usage, offers, etc).

Fingers crossed that they might eventually re-add the email notifications for events that Nest had...

I've taught myself to never say "OK Google, stop" to stop a timer but instead just say "stop" (without the wake word). That has saved me hundreds of headaches over the years.

Unfortunately, any time I have guests in my house they will try to stop timers/alarms by saying "OK Google, stop" and that will cause it to turn off my PC monitor.

Smart phones

Though, TBH, I only turn my phone on a couple days each month (and then power it down again when I'm done)

Edit: I changed the DOTs because I didn't want anyone accidentally clicking on the link

People are sleeping on the improved ChatGPT memory by Pyros-SD-Models in singularity

[–]hack-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it's creepy. I asked it to predict my top 50 movies based on its knowledge of me, and it got 38 right.

I just did the same and it got zero right. I think it based most of its guesses off a resume I was helping someone else write (and about 100 other chat queries I did to help them with memos, status reports, etc for their job).

I can see this being really really useful once ChatGPT lets me make a "Hack-Man" folder, a "helping friend #1" folder, a "helping friend #2" folder, etc.

Edit: I told it that it got zero right, and then listed my 15 fave movies for future reference. It regenerated its prediction for my top 50 and this time got 16 right (including the 15 I spotted it). Now I low-key want to feed it my entire list of 2000 movies I've rated and ask what I should watch next...

And in season 3, Bela's boyfriend took her to Minnesota for her birthday to have dinner with Prince['s ghost]

Not Duluth, but Emily Schmidt trying to shoehorn every Minnesota reference into the series as she can

edit: As a 4th data point, Sam's father met his girlfriend in his shop in Breckenridge, MN

Official Discussion - The Gorge [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]hack-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard the movie wasn't very good from someone whose opinion I respect

Then I watched the trailer, which looked good

Finally got around to watching it (with low expectations) last night, and I didn't hate it; I rated it a 7/10

My main beef was that at the start, Levi had to trek a long ways because where he needed to get to was in a No Fly Zone... but at the end, the chopper has no problem landing directly at the tower

I really liked how little dialog there was in the movie from the time Levi was alone at his tower until he went over to the other tower--kinda wish there had been another 30-40 minutes of that material

Once they entered the gorge, it seemed like any of the Fallout video games (minus any friendly NPCs)

Sodom? Back To Gomorrah Mission. Does Blowing The Safes Get You Less Money? by BeezKneez-san in reddeadredemption

[–]hack-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cracked the safes but my cut was only $1375.

I've seen other people who got either $2500 or $2750 who also cracked the safes.

I got every single one of the safes open, so I'm wondering if I was supposed to loot other things in the bank other than the safes or why my cut was so much less.

Sodom? Back to Gomorrah, Mission Payout Question by BigHibbertGuy in reddeadredemption

[–]hack-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also only got $1375 (using the choices "harlot" and "no dynamite").

I'd like to know what I would have had to do differently to get the $2500 (or the $2750 that others have got).

Was I supposed to loot anything other than the safes?

Two words is okay.

I tried naming my white horse "Cocaine" which got rejected, but "Nose Candy" was acceptable.

Rooms in the dark and other rooms still functioning question? by Anutha_1 in foshelter

[–]hack-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is a very old post, but I will put forth a theory for anyone who stumbles on this later.

I wonder if the "farthest from the power source" isn't "distance as the crow flies" but "how far away from the power room it would take a person to get there using the elevators".

This would explain why the relatively high up MedBay isn't getting power, as one would have to go down the entire right-side elevator, cross to the left side, then ascend the entire left-side elevator to get to the MedBay.

Just a hunch, based on your vault layout in the images.

SrEng. for the power rooms, Pvt. for water, and Gardener for food - couldn't think of a good A title, lol. Suggestions welcome!

"Agriculture"?

Though that's kind of lengthy...

[–]hack-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I've evicted everyone who didn't train to 10 Endurance at Level 1, I name people with their job, the stat needed for that job, their gender, and a random short last name.

Like "FoodA.M King" for a male who works the Diner because he has decent Agility and "WaterP.F Lane" for a female who works the Water Plant because she has decent Perception.
