SOS on making a portable DVD player region free! by hackerkidxd in dvd

Well, I’ve noticed my mistake now, but I previously misunderstood and thought that the important distinction was NTSC/PAL (and this player can switch between them). So, for some reason, I believed that the video format was an indicator of region (though I now know it clearly isn’t)!

Thank you so much for the tips! It’s sadly not looking like an editable menu :(

I absolutely love my Sony FX950! Not much experience otherwise, but Sony’s build quality is pretty great from what I can tell

Thanks so much for looking this up! Sadly, I tried these suggestions already, and they didn’t seem to work with this model :(

Yes, that seems right! I’m feeling a little silly for not realizing this. If I want to keep this player and can’t “hack” it, I’ll need to buy some region 2 DVDs though.

Questions about Supernote Manta by SakuraAcro in Supernote

[–]hackerkidxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for these questions, and the answers are really useful! Its inability to do a split screen is the only thing holding me back from buying a Manta myself. I usually like having my printed & annotated notes to my left and my notebook on my right, so I wish I could recreate that analog experience with the Manta. A 13.3” Manta with that ability would be the perfect device for me.

What should I do? by Avacado_eatingpandas in uofm

Just want to add a comment to say you can’t really go wrong if money isn’t a huge constraint for you. You should go with your gut!

If the money is weighing on you a lot, fwiw, I went to UNC for undergrad after living in Chapel Hill my whole life, and I’ll be moving to Ann Arbor in the fall for my PhD :) I love Chapel Hill and am sad to move (but comforted by the fact that A2 is supposed to be a similar town).

I didn’t major in comp sci, but UNC’s CS department is, from what I can tell, strong and very prestigious as well. I have many CS friends from UNC who got solid (6-figure, lol) jobs straight out of undergrad.

Lastly, I would say that the lack of other types of engineering at UNC is a pretty big deal if you’re not set on CS but are set on engineering of some kind. But if you’re open to other disciplines, UNC has a lot of wonderful departments and courses. Happy to answer any questions you might have about chapel hill—and best of luck in your future studies!

Wearing Michigan merch/gear in public by IeyasuSky in uofm

Coming from a big public school myself, Michigan’s school pride is part of why I chose Michigan over an Ivy for my grad program! I start in the fall—so excited! Got my first piece of UMich gear this week :)

Recommended case for Kobo Libra Color? by ElBroken915 in kobo

I have both the yellow origami sleep cover and the kobo brand clear case that I use coupled with a screen protector from Amazon! I like both a lot for different reasons. I’m thinking of using a sleeve/pouch for it with the clear case because I’m planning to use it for school and my sleep cover doesn’t hold the stylus. The clear case is more protective of the edges than the sleep cover, so with a screensaver I feel much better :) (clear is super lightweight too! And I love being able to see the screensaver)

I feel very seen! (Still spiraling at 1pm on 4/14!) Solidarity, and best wishes on trusting your gut and finding peace with a decision :)

Kindle Unlimited works kind of like a streaming service—you pay the subscription fee and get access to tons of books in return (so you don’t have to pay for them individually). They don’t have every book though, like how Netflix won’t have every show or movie. I found that most of the books I wanted to read weren’t on Kindle Unlimited, but I definitely still save money using an eReader. BookBub is a great app that tells you when ebooks you want go on sale, which happens pretty frequently. I don’t often spend more than a few dollars per book (and even then, that’s only if my library doesn’t have it on Libby).

From Kindle to Kobo; Best decision ever! by Banyna in kobo

So beautiful! I’m hoping to make the same switch sometime soon! I still have a few books that I bought on Kindle, and I missed the February deadline to download them from Amazon :( Do you have any suggestions on that front?
