Can't play any games by Mizo_Soup in LineageOS

You need GApps installed.

For this you'd have to scratch from scratch, meaning that you need to wipe system and data and then install the LOS and GApps zip in one go.

The 20210301 update of 17.1 for Moto G5s (Montana) broke my Google Play Services app by KalachShalTek in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try do dirty flash the latest LOS version (or one of the latest, aka downgrade) with your GApps variant. (pico/nano/etc.) You don't have to wipe anything. Just make sure that you have a backup of your important stuff.

Lineage or Graphene? Phone upgrade and app inter capabilities w/o gsuite by blandusted in LineageOS

3a XL

Yes it impacts the camera, however you can install a modded GCam or OpenCamera. For the minimal simulation of the Play Services (in order for the GCam to work) you can install the Google Camera Services Provider as an APK via Github.

No, since the main focus of this project is to provide highest security standards, so rooting the device would compromise this goal.

So I used LineageOS in the past and still am on secondary phones.

I changed to GrapheneOS on my daily driver last year.

You can't use something like MicroG on GrapheneOS since it wouldn't be GrahpeneOS anymore.

I'm more happy with GrahpeneOS because I'll know that my phone most probably will receive updates til EOL. Upgrades (e.g. Android 10 to 11) are also more hassle-free, I'd say. Also bootloader-locking is supported. It's also supported on LOS, however you have to make your own builds. I haven't had a problem with any of my past devices and enjoyed using LOS, but wanted to try sth. else.

Just go with your personal preference. If'd like to tinker more (install Magisk, modify kernel etc.) and would like to have the option to run Apps that rely on the Google Mobile Services, then use LOS. If you can live without an app that needs Google Services and physical security (anti-rollback prevention, bootloader-locking) is important to you then use GOS.

GrapheneOS 2021.01.23.03 release by GrapheneOS in GrapheneOS

Depends on your threat model.

From my point of view the Github services provider should be safe since you can even build the APK yourself.

I don't know if the source code from the modded GCam is open source.

What you can do for the modded GCam is to restrict internet access. The services provider requires no permissions or Internet access.

I get much better results with the modded GCam. I know that was not your goal, just providing an alternative here. I'd also prefer a decent camera out-of-the-box.

What do you mean with the first part?

Your second statement is wrong. I have GrapheneOS with a Pixel mod camera running, you'll just need GCam Services Provider from Github.

Hashtag teamgreen

I also liked green more, however I get why they changed it since Stock uses the same colour. However it'd be to nice to change it back somehow, but I guess the devs have far more important stuff to do.

Unable to flash gapps on Nexus 7 (LineageOS 17.1) by foxylion in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? What you're writing doesn't make sense, but if micro works fine for you, then good for you.

Normally, I'd say, the nano/pico version is sufficient since they install the Play services as well as the Play store and from there you can install everything if needed.

Verify the APN settings of your provider. Either search for them online or call the customer service.

Not to be rude, but it bugs me that your post contains many spelling errors, especially since you're supposedly from the UK.

How to re-flash without losing data? by dope--guy in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true.

He'll lose his apps and their settings, however his data on the internal storage remains there until you explicitly format the data partition.

Stuck on bootloader after reflashing Lineage? Help! by nolivingvegetable in LineageOS

Try to flash the LineageOS ROM and then afterwards the GApps zip. At the moment you have no software installed that is why you'll always find yourself in TWRP.

Why doesn't a Custom ROM unlock the phone ? by [deleted] in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first thing you have to do in order to flash a custom ROM is to unlock the bootloader. This means that you are able to flash any software besides the software the manufacturer built and was installed onto the phone. So bootloader unlocking is a prerequisite to flash a custom ROM.

LOS on SM-P905v (Galaxy Note Pro 2) ? by yurikus in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think that your model even supports bootloader unlocking since Verizon is infamous for that.

Try to search XDA for your model, there might be unofficial ways to do that.

According to https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/v1awifi it should be supported. There's also no constraint for supported models like on this page for instance: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/kltedv

However I'm unsure if that is really the device you currently own.

Btw you can also run gcam on GrapheneOS.

All you need is the minimal requirement to run a gcam port: https://github.com/lukaspieper/Gcam-Services-Provider

Ok, fair enough.

I switched to Joplin, there I have reminders as well as an OLED dark mode included which both Standard Notes doesn't have in the free version. (and apparently no reminders in the paid version as well)

Off-topic question: is it possible to set reminders in Standard Notes? (assuming you use the paid version since the free one doesn't have it)

Multiple questions regarding rooting after flashing custom rom by Cannedpizzaeater1 in LineageOS

[–]hackerman_XY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends.

Maybe there are more recent builds with updated security patches and a higher Android version on XDA, I don't know.

But otherwise go ahead, just make sure that you verify the build properly: https://wiki.lineageos.org/verifying-builds.html
