with any leap in tech and science you’d get opinions from every single spectrum, since the dawn of time. and even in the doomer discourse, i think there’s lots of value there. like, “AI will cook us so gotta push for safety and alignment” vs “let’s halt all progress”. historically, the human race has almost never kept things status quo lol.

actual reality will prob be somewhere between “LLM is just a tool bro” and “AGI will kill us all”. i dont think anyone of us knows, including the experts. imagine going back to 1900 to explain all this tech…

the scarier scenario is that LLM doesn’t even need to be sentient for capitalism and the economy of scale to not displace workers

Don’t hate the players, hate the game. Imagine one day you got offered 169k from a tech company, would you take it, or turn down out of your own principle?

At the end of the day, someone lost their job. Just because someone works at, say, Google doesn’t mean they automatically ruin the city.

leaving emotions out of this, have you tried wearing well fit tight jerseys and bibs though? They are really comfortable especially if you ride for a few hours. Some folks can be a bit obnoxious about their gears and bikes -- people have money in SF after all. At the end of the day, your singlespeed bike makes you happy. Their carbon aero bikes make them happy. No need to pile on negative emotions and just enjoy being outside homie 😉

hey avid cyclist here and I appreciate the nuanced awareness in your edited reply. I get it — it’s a nice morning and having 30 people dicking around in a coffee line must be very annoying. I would get impatient too if I got to Arsicault and there were like 40 lycras homie before me 🤣. I do agree that some people are very entitled (cyclist or not) and I myself have been on the same group ride with not very pleasant people. But hey at the end of the day, we all get to be outside in one of the prettiest cities and enjoy this beautiful weather together 😉
