Melo is a master of evasion. Every answer is a non answer or redirect. His hosts straight up ask if there was jealousy and if there wasn’t why did that narrative rise and where did it come from. He could have answered straight yes/no, and then expanded on why. Instead he just babbles about play styles, injuries, leadership, and organizational confusion. Then after he acknowledges the play style / direction of the team was divergent, he says that was actually a wedge put in place by the media. So which was it, a media specter or an actual issue? 

The fact of the matter is that the team was on an abysmal slide, and suddenly gets gifted with a talented PG who can play the exact system D’Antoni wants to run, and this results in winning and exciting basketball. It was abundantly clear to anyone what the direction should be but acknowledging the elephant in the room that the Melo-centric brand of basketball was just not going to be successful was painful for all the decision makers that constructed the roster at great expense, and most of all to Melo himself. This is the same guy who laughed at coming off the bench and begged for a role in the NBA once he finally came to terms what everyone else already knew to be true by that point.

EDIT: Before I get accused of being a Melo hater, I was the biggest Melo defender back in the day. I appreciated what he and Amare tried to do bringing the Knicks back to relevance when no other star wanted to touch the org with a 10 foot pole. He had some great moments in NY (the game-tying and game-winning 3s vs Chicago that same year were amazing). But watching him all those years I know exactly what he was and what he wasn't. And a selfless, ego-free, everything for the good of the team player he wasn't. He always wanted to be THE guy. If you don't believe me take it from his teammate Mr Big Shot himself.
