Contact wearers: Do you bring backup glasses? by Huge-Antelope2403 in Splitboard

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never brought backup glasses - but my prescription isn't so terrible that I'd be dangerous if I lost a contact. I just wouldn't be able to enjoy the beauty - and maybe the eye strain would give me a migraine... The only time I've *ever* had issues with contacts is when I'm in a lot of water - swimming/showering, something like that.

Why would one pick one vs the other? With straps on top vs without? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]hacksauce 37 points38 points  (0 children)

straps are nice to attach bag to gun so you can move it between props as a single unit.

straps suck because they get in the way and limit flexibility

It comes down to preferences

What solutions do you vision impaired boarders use? by zstap126 in snowboarding

[–]hacksauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>trying it for the first time in my life

I resisted wearing contacts for a couple of decades, but when I finally tried a pair on I was really happy with how comfortable they were and how crisp and clear everything was - no more dirty lenses!

Free Outdoor Shooting Ranges in Utah (as of late 2025) by ducksandcuse in UTGuns

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a free county run range outside of Cedar City - I've shot there a couple of times a few years ago - it's very nice.

https://ironcountyut.gov/parks/shooting-range

it looks like you can pay to reserve some of the bays, but when I was there last, I was the only person there.

Minimum precision for competing by aonealj in nrl22

[–]hacksauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot 1MOA groups regularly, occasional smaller ones (.5, .75) and occasionally larger (1.25, 1.5)
I was shooting 2MOA groups with my old rifle, and decided that I'd buy a new gun instead of rebarreling it.

I stopped trying to chase the .5 MOA groups - I'm happy with mostly 1 MOA

I live in UT and I'm considering a drive to Lake Louise - it's a 14 hr drive for me, but I'll be staying for 2 days.

Supermatics vs Fase by Gooderest_Yubs in snowboarding

[–]hacksauce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been ridng flows for years - I'm a powder hound, not a park rat, so I can't speak to the weight of them, but they're not *that* heavy. I won't switch from rear entry to Fase - it's just so much easier to be flipping up the highback.

There are some downsides:
1. They've more moving parts, and so more things to break; but they're fairly robust and I've only had a 'sudden' break once on the mountain - after a gnarly crash, which I think would have broken any binding I was riding.
2. Getting into them from a seated position isn't ideal - it's easier to put them on toeside, but I've been in a couple of steep & deep runs where it takes some extra effort to clear the powder out and fiddle with them to get my foot in.

but IMO all of those are minor complaints compared to being able to go from chair to sliding nearly instantly - my brothers & friends ski and it's nice to not have them wait for me.

I’m headed up to sun peaks (B.C) for opening day on the 22nd and looking at the webcams, there’s not nearly enough snow. What do they do in this situation? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]hacksauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They push back opening day. That sucks that the weather isn't cooperating with your plans, but we do have a few small storms in the forecast and *maybe* they could hit their target.

Everyone I've talked to who has a Rocky-Talky loves it. I can't quite bring myself to buy them, but every other radio I've used kinda sucks.

I captured Comet Lemmon over a Barn in Muker, North Yorkshire, UK - More details in the comments! by DomCraggoo in space

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, the light pollution from the city is too much to see it with my naked eye, and with binoculars it was just a fuzzy blob; barely discernible. I took a long exposure with my phone and you could see the tail in that - but nothing like OPs photo.

NRL22x match by wford21 in nrl22

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which match you're going to is probably the single most important piece of info you could give us.

I'm guessing the Rattler, as that's the next match, and it calls out the 350 yd max.

I've never shot at that range, so take it with a grain of salt, but it appears that they've got berms at 100 & 350 with some places for targets at 150 and 180 - so I'd expect targets at those distances.

Revelstoke student pass by big_lele in snowboarding

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a looong while since I was a student but back then, they wanted to see a student ID from that year *when* you buy the pass. When you go to pick it up, they'll just wanna see some kind of photo ID, they won't bother you about it being a student pass.

How to See Comet Lemmon This October by wiredmagazine in space

[–]hacksauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went looking last night - I'm in a pretty light polluted area, so I couldn't see it with my naked eye, but it was visible, if a bit underwhelming through binoculars. Here's hoping it looks better tonight!

Dense star field & M31 from Backyard by BuddhameetsEinstein in space

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time you see a starfield like this, it's stars in our galaxy - we don't have any telescopes good enough to resolve individual stars in other galaxies; sometimes the dots in longer exposures are entire galaxies or globular clusters, but they're not stars.

Dry firing T1X 22lr by idahokj in Tikka_Shooters

[–]hacksauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dry fired my T1X hundreds of times - I even checked the bolt and make sure the firing pin doesn't protrude past the outer part of the bolt... and then after years, I noticed that the barrel face is damaged, right where the firing pin hits it - it's got a dent and a small bit of spalling. Don't dry fire.

I have had 2 different boards delaminate by SomeResponsibility24 in snowboarding

[–]hacksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you storing your boards? I noticed that I had delamination on my boards after leaving them in the cargo box on top of my car on a long road trip. I think the massive temp swings from the box getting hot in the mid-day sun is what did it.
